If you're one to skip class, don't take Frye. I loved him as a prof, although he graded by three tests, two chapter summaries, and a few quizzes he is a fantastic professor who really geos into detail in his lectures. If you show up to class and take GOOD notes you will be fine. Make sure to study well for each test!

Super funny and informative lectures, honestly a delight to listen to. However, a lot of your grade is based on 3 tests and they're very challenging, with not a lot of preparation. Make sure to study and take good notes, plus do the assigned readings, otherwise you'll have a difficult time. History majors will excel here.

Professor Frye is a great guy and very funny during his lectures. However, he is one of the laziest teachers I have ever had. Does the bare minimum but expects much more out of students. DO NOT take this class unless you love history and already have a strong knowledge of it.

I have now taken two classes with Frye. One of the funniest and level headed professor's in the game. His classes are simple: If you read, participate and take very good notes, he will know. One of the few professors that you can't BS around and get a good grade. I'm guessing some of these negative reviews are from kids who thought they could.

He is a funny guy but needs to be a better teacher. All material from textbook is included in tests but not even close to covered in class. He talks about what interests himself. Does not give review for what will be on test and the grading is very unfair. 3 tests(2 40 multiple choice tests and 1 essay) make up 90% of final grade! No study guides!

David Frye gives 3 exams that each account for 30% of your final grade, while the other 10% are made up by 4 pop quizzes & 2 chpt summaries. He does not teach by the book, the book is terrible to read so it does not help you at all. No study guides or helpful guidance for the exams either, so he does not care if u have to retake this class 5 time.

Mr. Frye is a very happy, energetic but unwilling to help with any study material like a study guide, homework (other then reading material), etc. The class was lecture based. The material was reviewed once. Western civ grading was only based on three of the top of his head quizzes and two hard tests. class directed mainly for history majors

Frye is a really good guy, he is funny and makes the class super interesting. I am a straight A student and a history major and struggled a lot in his class. He gives you 3 tests, all 30% and the other 10% is based off quizzes that are not easy. Although he is a good teacher, this class is NOT worth it. Do not expect to perform well in the class

Probably my favorite professor at the school. Starts off the semester giving all his students funny nicknames to remember them by. Gets to know all of his students and makes lectures both funny and interesting. However, the only grades are 2 papers and 3 tests. Tests are 100% multiple choice and questions can be confusing. Not the easiest tests.

Frye is one of my favorite professors at the University. His classes definitely involve a lot of primary source reading at the upper levels, which is sort of to be expected since you know, HISTORY. If you can get him for your lower levels (Western Civ Before 1500) it was one of the easiest As I had ever gotten. He also tends to give extra credit.

I enjoyed this class because history and I do not get along. Frye is always engaged and comical with his lectures. Makes my Monday night class from 4-6:45pm MUCH easier and enjoyable. I am not a history major so when something out of my field of interestinterest in general is being made entertaining and educational, it all works out. :)

Probably one of the best professors I've had. Very nice and respectful towards his students. He really knows his stuff, and he engages the class in discussions about the material. He is an awesome lecturer. The readings he gives for homework are a little tough, but if you read them and attempt to understand them you should do fine on the quizzes.

Great guy, but can be easily distracted and go on tangents. We spent most of a 90 minute lecture debating whether a bear or a lion would win in a battle, relating to Roman history. He is an amazing teacher. He can lecture without notes in front of him. He does a jeopardy game at the end of the semester for extra credit; it's cut-throat. I recommend

Only allowed us to use primary sources: no outside knowledge either: we had to write our own encyclopedias: back to reading, writing and rhetoric. He taught how think, Not what to think.

I think Frye is great, he's hilarious and really chill, but this class is impossible if you've never written a paper for a history class before. There are small quizzes on the longggg readings each week and one paper worth 70% of your grade. Don't be me and ruin your GPA just because hes a fun guy. That paper destroyed 4 years of hard work.
