This dude is great for an A. All you have to do is go to class take notes & do the study guides (which he ALWAYS gives b4 the test). You will need to buy the book and Cds b/c there is a listening section on the tests. Make sure to at least come the day b4 class to get the answers to the studyguides. And you do have 2 go 2 concerts and write papers.

Dr. Hawkins is a very, very hard professor to follow! It's close to impossible to take notes as he is always extremely hyper and goes off on crazy nonsense tangents. He should not be teaching music. 3 exams 1 large presentation. Hard to do well having to take notes by listening to him..DON'T take if you don't have to!

he is so sweet! attendance is not mandatory and he knows what he is talking about though he does tend to ramble. gives basic study guide before each test. i would def take him again. if you're looking for a non-music major fine arts requirment, this is the class!

He's such a great teacher and is very passionate about music. He talks kind of fast so write quick! Take good notes. While you can find some answers from the study guide in the book, EVERYTHING on the test will be what he lectures in class.

Professor Hawkins was a very hyper man but was passionate about all the material. Classes are just lecture but you have to pay close attention to his wild tangents because they hold answers to the tests.Humorous&easy. Do the study guides & the tests will be easy. You will have to do a 5-page paper OR a presentation. Lots of music to listen to.:)

He is really good, and he loves music. You won't get bored unless you are not interested at all. You have to do a presentation or a paper (do presentation). He'll give you the study guide and tests are directlly from them. He is nice and a very smart man. TAKE HIM!

Awesome guy, but boring class. He's very helpful and will ask any questions you have. He's the nicest professor ever so you feel guily for not going. Does take attendance but it doesn't count against you. 3 test & 2 music critiques.. not bad at all!

Right off the bat he talks REALLY fast. Nice guy, tests are fairly hard including listening to music. Mandatory attendance at 2 concerts/write reviews for both. I would take again, not the best class but again, its music appreciation. He makes it as easy as possible.

He has got to be the nicest guy in the world. Extremely helpful. I took him for Latin Music and he really knows his stuff. Pretty easy class, just study the study guide he gives. Could not ask for a better or nicer teacher.

Very high energy level. You can really tell that he loves music and tries to make you love it too. Although I do agree about asking him questions outside of class....he can kind of make you feel like an idiot. but overall very good class!

He loves music...maybe because it's all over the place like he is. He talks so fast that it's hard to take notes and he makes you feel nervous because his energy levels are so high. In class he's a very nice man, good teacher - but ask him something when you're not in class and he's brusk and unfriendly...kinda makes you feel like an idiot.

MR HAWKINS IS NOT A GOOD TEACHER. HE LECTURES THE WHOLE CLASS. THERE IS COMPLETE SILENCE IN THE ROON EXCEPT FOR HIS SPEEDTALK. HE DOES NOT GIVE FREE OPPORTUNITY TO ASK QUESTIONS. HE TALKS REALLY FAST AND RAMBLES ON AT TIMES. THERE ARE 3 TESTS WITH ABOUT 30 HANDPICKED QUESTIONS. THERE ARE 2 CONCERT ATTENDANCE AND REPORTS DUE AT END OF SEMESTER.

This class sucked! he is on crack or something.. he talks so fast and repeats everything he says 20 times. talks the whole class time and you'll leave w/ 5 lines of notes. He gives study guides for his tests and he doesn't require much work outside of class.
