I don't understand the bad feedback! . His classes are organized, the material is plenty, and sure it's stuff that can get boring at times, but it is stuff that is so awesome to know! He is a really entertaining guy, and he grades his papers harshly, but you will learn a lot!! Gives a lot of hints for the midterm and final. Wants you to do well.

Singlehandedly destroyed my interest in religion courses. Once asked a girl if English was her native language after reading one of her papers. Insane attendance policy. Course clearly expects everyone to be Christian. Taught two of his own books. I once wished food poisoning on myself just to get out of his class.

This is a very challenging teacher. Do not take one of Hein's classes unless you have a strong interest in the class subject (Meaning don't take him to fill a req/elective). Grammar is paramount and you will lose multiple letter grades for mistakes. You must treat the class like an upper level English Comp. class.

Very informative and thorough. Learned a lot of interesting information from the extensive reading. Classes have high entertainment value for his personality mixture that is akin to Adam West meets Richard Dawkins.

His teaching style was new to me, as this course was pure discussion. He is funny in a wierd way and no doubt very knowledgable in many subjects. My issue was that although he offers help to his students, when you do seek help he acts annoyed and doesn't do much. Also a bit chauvinistic. Favors men-Women had consistently lower grades then the men.

Good teacher. Causes you to test your assumptions. If you do not like to think, do not take this class.

Dr. Hein has a bit of a bad reputation, but he is a very knowledgeable professor. I took his New Testament class & found it to be very intriguing. He teaches religion from a historical perspective, which is an amazing point of view. Be prepared to work, but it will be worth the effort. I highly recommend his New Testament Class!

He seems to ramble on for a long time about nothing, but if you read at least a few of the reading assignments, and write the papers you can usually make out exactly what he's looking for on the tests... Hopefully I will do ok, now as for having learned something........

I don't agree with Dr. Hein's overall rating, I thought he was a very good instructor with interesting input. When talking about religion, he stayed about as objective as one could be having written books on the subject. If you find religion intriguing, take the courses. If you plan to sleep and make to do lists during his lectures, steer clear.

One of my favorite professors. A lot of people don't like him because they're not willing to do the work, and he's real strict on things like absences, late papers, and with jackasses who talk with their friends and sleep in class. As long as you're willing to actually do the homework (which isn't that weighty) and not behave like an adolescent ass, then you're pretty much guaranteed an A.

It was a very easy class, very boring though. He cracks himself up during class, which is also amusing for the rest of the class. He wasn't that bad of a professor.

I don't understand the negative ratings - he wasn't that bad. I never had him stare at my cleavage as another rater implies they had him do to them. He was an adequate teacher, did seem engaged with the material, though he did tend to steer class conversations so that people would agree with him.
