Comment:

Hardest class I have ever taken, really makes you work for it, and in the end it's either you know the material or you don't. Exams are difficult and only the hardest questions are selected. Professor is condescending and not very helpful. I had to frequently seek help outside of class (tutoring, other students, etc). Rough and not worth it :(

He's a tough professor, BUT if you use him when you need help, he's really a nice guy. He speaks English! He's pretty clear and its obvious he likes teaching and advising. I would take him again. Lots of homework. One midterm, one final so but the exam questions were fair. Had I not been struggling in another class I'd have had the time to do well

Everyone always says how Calc 2 is the hardest math class you'll ever take. But with Horntrop, it wasn't that bad! In his lectures, he introduces new topics by deriving where formulas come from or explaining the theory behind a topic. Then he does A LOT of examples! And he solves common exams in class! And he's weird and funny! Take him he's cool!

Really helpful professor. Has great energy and a lot of enthusiasm. He's always willing to help in office hours.Although his in class quizzes are difficult and homework is graded strictly, it doesn't count for that much and he curves it.

Goshgolly, this guy is something else. If your the kind of person who must see every step to a solution like I was, it will be difficult to grasp. It's disappointing too because he's a nice guy & has a great sense of humor. He also often makes himself available you need it so don't hesitate to make an appointment if you have questions. A challenge.

I just can't learn from him. The worst part is he gives like 25- 50 problems in a Math 477 class. He needs to give the students a break. He is not so helpful with Office hours. He makes fun or the students and puts them down. I can't learn from this guy and worst is that u don't hv enough time to review or study. His class takes over ur life.

Very good and funny guy, he makes sure everyone understands everything he even explains simple stuff and doesnt skip any steps when solving problems.Very good at explaining things.You have to do a lot of work to pass though. If you do homework and do decent in exams you will be fine. You must show up to class

Ok, this guy knows his stuff, you just need to get used to him, he's really weird, but he's fair, and nice as long as your not disrespectful...Its not an easy class, yet if you show care and appreciation, you'll get somewhere, just make sure u dont push his buttons, be early, do hw, etc....(u gotta b a teacher's pet!)

Very good professor. He knows his stuff really well. Very helpful, expects you to have an attitude of learning. Most complaints come from students who don't want to learn, and expect things to be handed to them. Terrible attitude. You get what you give. If you have this professor, good luck in passing. Judge yourself: no example done in the class at all (one or two very basic), difficult homeworks with no direction, no sample of his past exams, no review before the exam, and pays more attention to students who knows their material better. He's one of the best math teachers I've had. He explains the concepts and does a lot of problems in class for practice. He also gives quizzes every week and it helps for the exams. The exams count for a lot so look over the homework problems, review your notes, and ask him for help. He may act goofy but he's very nice and wants you to do well.

The hardest class I have ever taken, but it's taught by the best professor. You will spend a lot of hours doing the homework. Go to his office with questions. He is always willing to help. Comparing to the homework, his exams are not hard, but only if you work hard enough doing the homework. He is the best and the nicest guy.

Most students hate him, but that is only because he is very interested in math and wants his students to be as enthusiastic. Great teacher, but you have to pay attention in class and be respectful...if you don't expect to do poor. he will definitly teach you more about math than any most other proffesors...take his class if u wana learn

He is undoubtedly one of the best professor that I have so far had. Always willing to spare time teaching you anytime that suits you. He surely has clear, indepth approach towards problems and go over topics at a convenient pace considering the learning level of every student in class. Wow, good luck passing. The only thing you do in class is examples from the book.. While doing these examples, he managed to confuse the class even more by doing some non-obvious shortcuts. If you do end up taking him, teach yourself. You will do far better.
