Comment:
Interesting, off beat Professor. Kind of unusual for Temple. I took him for Pop Culture. He's a nice guy and very approachable. However, you must read the books if you intend on getting a good grade. If I remember correctly, his tests are based on the books. His lectures, while fun and interesting, are not meant to prepare you for your tests.

I'm going to miss Dr. Jacobs. The UFOs in American Society course is one of the most fascinating educational experiences I will ever have had. He is so funny and knows so much despite the fact that he has been winding down. He is retiring at the end of the Spring 2011 semester. He is a great lecturer and a very nice person. Best of luck to him.

This guy is a great teacher. His lectures are entertaining and he talks about everything you need to know for the tests. If you just go to class you'll do well. Theres only a midterm, final, and paper and all are essay form. Its a good class

He's a decent enough guy and knows what he is talking about, but his lectures, though entertaining, have absolutely nothing to do with the readings or exams. His TA is a strict grader. The films we watched were great, but he has an uncanny ability to analyze movies almost to the point of ruining them. Overall not a bad class if you like movies.

he's a nice guy and he sounds exactly like rex from toy story. his lectures keep you entertained.i didnt buy any of the books and still managed a b+. the essay tests are easy you can usually just make stuff up from what you already know and the lecture and you'll be fine. i was surprised at how easy this class was.

DO NOT take this guy during a summer session! lectures are veeeeery boring so six hours a week is not fun. continuously goes off topic and his jokes are TERRIBLE. the only good point about his class that that if you go to the lectures, you don't have to open a single book all semester. and if you read the 4 books, you don't need to go to lectures.

He knows his history and popular culture, but his lectures don't connect very much to the massive amounts of assigned reading. If you pay attention you can still fare well. Look up his UFO website if you have the chance. It's mind-blowing.

Jacobs was really funny. He doesn't take attendance in lecture but as long as you go and take notes you don't need to open a book. His TA's grade everything so depending on how easy your TA is determines your grade in the class

Great teacher. Didn't do as well in the course as I should have, but if you want to really know what American History is about, take a course with Jacobs. Funnier than any standup I've ever seen. Very cynical, in a good way.

If you want to be bored to tears for an entire semester take the UFO class... This guy is a jack a$$! HE BELIEVES IN ALIENS AND TESTS YOU ON HIS STUPID STORIES...took him for summer, and he kept us for entire 3 hours and assigned 4 big books for 6 weeks of reading. do not take as elective...it blows

He is a funny guy, highly intelligent, and makes things interesting. Looks like Mark Twain. Might be an alien. But in all seriousness, he is a very good teacher and I highly recommend taking him. His lectures are great. His tests can be a little difficult, but read the material and you'll do good. One of the better professors at Temple.

This guy is definitly a cool teahcer who is easy as all hell. He makes class interesting with his strange comments. If you know history or you are a history major, dont take this class. You'll learn nothing and end up being confused because he makes many untrue and confusing, although funny, comments. It is an easy A class and alot of fun.
