Very very kind man and helpful in office hours. Tons of different reading for my Recent Developments class, varied sources. Had to purchase 7 different small books, but grade is based only on 2 essays on small sections of different books (you pick), a longer essay expanding the smaller and a final. Very thorough, but confusing and boring lectures.

Who are these people writing the glowing reviews? I thought the consensus was that Kamitsuka's a lousy professor. He's a nice enough guy, but his lectures seem like dry recitations of the same old stuff, and he doesn't really add anything new to the material or even assess the content - just sort of restates it. And his attendance policy is absurd

I guess I'm in the minority, but I found his lectures (apparently improvised) to be frustratingly repetitive and uniformative. I also didn't appreciate how slow he was in returning papers; one paper was turned in before midterms and not returned until the final week of classes!

Relg 226 was the hardest class I have ever taken. I spent hours doing the reading and trying to fully understand the reading. The whole semester you feel really confused, but in the end, you end up learning the material with a moderate amount of authority
