Do not take his class. He is horrible. I am an honor student and this class almost ended that for me. He flunked almost the entire class on the first an only in class exam. The other two grades were based on papers. I recieved a C on both. That has never happened in my college career. The reading is dreary, which includes his book.

This professor is fool who preaches on the Constitution and yet clearly cannot tolerate the opinions of others if they fail parallel his own. His lectures lack energy and their is virtually no discussion or debate, just him droning on. I wholly regret taking his class.

Drop this class!!!! Inflexible to other opinions other than his and treats his students like experts in "citations." Total conflict of interest having required HIS published books!! 1 small citation error, and you will find yourself paying for your mistake with an 'F' in class and expulsion from the university. STUDENTS BEWARE!!!

Went from a high B in his class to being accused of plagirism, receiving a D grade (later converted to an F by NIU), and being banned from NIU for a year. Reason: "Inadvertant plagirism and missing quotation marks on a few sentences" of a huge paper. My great class ethic and previous good grades counted for nothing. Would never recommend him.

Great teacher who has unbound amounts of knowledge on American history. There are caveats however, he speaks slowly, but concisely, and unless you are very interested in history may find his side facts and stories boring. He is a very nice person and very personable. Tests are essays and questions are predictable. Semi-easy grader.

going to class is quite important because he gives daily terms that show up on your tests. He talks very slow and his lectures can go off track and he will not explain the very important terms. My TA was amazing, but i've heard its just luck of the draw. Tests are essay format and you're given the questions a week in advance

Very boring class. TAs expect you to know everything. They have very high expectations of you. I realize this is a college class, but I've never had to work so hard in a history class EVER. I took 260 last semester and we had to read twice as many books and write twice as many papers than 261...but for some reason I did better in 260? Do not take t

All of my good impressions of Kyvig and his class were tarnished when he gave me a "0" for supposed "Plagiarism" on a 44 page paper with 124 citations I turned in. He said I mis-cited some things and poorly paraphrased a few others, and he gave me no chance to correct it. Total garbage. For him to be this anal and hurt my grade is terrible.

Not a bad professor, but it is really hard to stay awake in his lectures after a while. He pauses after almost every other word and it gets irritating. I found him to not be a hard grader, though-as long as you're a good writer, and actually read the books you're writing on, you should be fine. Not too demanding of a class or of a professor.

Prof Kyvig is a funny guy but his lectures are BORING. I went to class and found it extremely hard to stay awake. He is a very hard grader unless he gives you his book and you just spit his quotes back at him. If you take him, go to him first with a rough

The most blatent left-wing liberal on campus. If you have any thought other than his you will loose one whole grade point. If you are an independant thinker - two grade points.

Dr. Kyvig is a brillant man and a wonderful teacher. His grading is hard and he does demand a lot. Dont take him and expect to get an A. You will have to work your butt off, but you will learn so much from him. He is also a very nice person and its not nerve racking talking to him about an issue
