Don't need to show up every day. Easy grader. Lectures can be pretty boring but he sums up all of the readings, so take notes. Read 1 of 4 books and still got an A.

Rude to students with questions, dry speech, rambles. Easy class but not good professor!

Professor Lipset keeps class interesting with his dry humor and is very approachable. He reiterates the most important points too so his lectures are pretty easy to follow even though he didn't use slides.

I had to take this as a Lib Ed requirement freshman year. Yes, the three hour long classes on Wednesday nights weren't fun, but I liked his division of class time. A lot of people probably didn't like him because they simply didn't care about the class, but I found him to be a pretty cool guy. Basically, if you can read and retain, you'll be fine.

Prof. Lipset does indeed ramble and uses course readings to interject dry jokes during his lectures. The man seems uneasy, and seems like he is being 'bothered' while lecturing. Overall the class is what you make of it.

Prof lipset's sarcastic dry sense of humor and monotone voice may turn some off; however his class proved to be fairly interesting. The assignments weren't bad and the tests had study guides. If you need the class take it. However if you are looking for an elective, this may not be the interesting class you are looking for

Overall, good professor. His lectures often went well with the readings in the textbook. He makes it clear what you need to know for the tests and other assignments. Easy class as well, but still makes you think.

Professor Lipset has proved to be an excellent professor. He is not at all the monster he has been projected to be here. I have enjoyed having him for a professor. He is just a tad intimidating but almost anyone in a position of authority can be. He does reject proposed answers in search of the correct one! I think he try's and that's encouraging.

A little bit awkward in his way of presenting information, but he's a funny guy and obviously knows a ton. TAs graded everything and you watch a lot of movies.

Overall a pretty good professor. His lectures are interesting and he adds in stories of his own experiences. The tests aren't too bad and you automatically get points just for showing up to class and participating in Active Learning Assignments.

Comment:
Yes, Lipset can be uninspiring, but this is mainly because he teaches the intro classes and most of the students don't give a s***. Don't ask stupid questions. The lecture and "active learnings" are the test EXACTLY. That's his formula. He is a genius. Elicit stories about his own experience and fieldwork. One of the best in the department.

David Lipset is my favorite professor of all time. He's a genius. If you go to class and listen, he is very clear about his key points. There is a huge amount of reading, but he summarizes it in lectures. Go to class and you will learn a LOT.

After having taken several classes with Prof. Lipset, I would have to say that I would not recommend him very highly. The excessive rambling about his ex-wife was hard to listen to, and one time in trying to get a final paper back, I was essentially brushed off.

I can see where some people would say he's not clear and rambles, but maybe he actually read these comments because I heard nothing of his personal life this semester. True his study guides have no value for tests, but if you ask him a question on the side he clarifies it well. Does have an ego, but is funny if your not sensitive to everything.

I took this class during May term and loved it. Tests are easy and as long as you know the material you will do well. He is also a very interesting professor who lectures on a lot of his own experiences and research.

The study guides were very helpful, and if you are a GOOD student and STUDY, you will do well on the tests. You do need to study extensively and read all the material--as well as take excellent notes! I got an A because I was dedicated and emailed the TAs, who WERE helpful, and asked questions. Lipset is a good instructor w/ dry humor.

Lipset is completely incomprehensible. He babbles on for hours without really saying anything important or relevant to what is on his tests. He leaves an hour before class and resigns his responsibility to the TAs. His studies guides are virtually useless and are not helpful what so ever when it comes to studying for tests. Avoid at all costs.

Lipset is not for everyone. anyone who just wants to full fill a libed req should not take him, but if you are interested in anthropology and have a sense of humor then i highly recommend him. i have had 4 classes with him and did well in all of them, its not that hard, you just cant be a moron.

He rambles and jumps around a lot. His tests are wicked and aren't based on his study guide or lectures. He is rude and obnoxious. He belittles his students and thinks it's amusing. His TAs aren't helpful either. If I didn't need this class for the lib. ed. requirement, I'd have never taken it.
