Comment:
David Alister Lowther does not deserve to be a professor. He talks about documentation all day in his DPM class whereas he is one of the most disorganized person at McGill. He designs his courses at an unorderly manner. He teaches in an extremely boring and unskilled fashion. Honestly, he just shouldn't teach. He submitted 4 different documents

Comment:
Had Lowther as our professor advisor for DPM. While he was funny and seemed to like us quite a bit, he often was not entirely clear about what the restrictions on the objective were, or didn't know at all and told us to ask the TAs (who never answered us).

Professor Lowther is in my opinion the best professor I have the seen in the ECSE department. He is extremely knowledgeable about the field. The terminology he uses might be a bit tricky sometimes, but this will force you to widen your horizons. The guy is very well respected by everybody in the faculty. Comp Eng material is dry in itself ..

A geriatric windbag with a trombone stuck down his throat. Exams are easy if you like rote memorization.

Wow are u guys delusional !??! Dal works so hard and puts a lot of effort in his slides!?!?! He just simply doesnt care and he is never available for help. He can quite rude often. The material hes teaching became obsolete 30 years ago. Slides are unclear, a lot of by heart for nothing. U don't learn anything in that class. Definitely dont recommen

I feel bad because Lowther tries really hard but he's just sooo boring. Try to do well on the class tests (they are just memorizing the assignment questions) because the midterm and final are kind of tricky.

Had him for ice2 and dpm. Good teacher overall but i wish he focused more on the technical parts than the "big picture", like some teachers love doing.

A lot of by heart in the course, overview of the comp eng in general, you do not learn so much. Do a good crib sheet for final and study a lot the problem sets.

He is one of the best and nicest teacher in my opinion. He passes so much time helping student and pays a lot of attention into bringing the student into his course. And he got the best teacher award in this faculty in 2009.

Lowther is a hilarious guy, but his jokes can be very subtle sometimes. He is also really nice. DPM was a lot of work though, but the class was very insightful. It gives an insight to how real engineering projects work.

Lectures are not really useful, but the coursepack is good and you just need to read it before exams. Lowther is a funny guy although you might not notice his jokes.

Just when I was becoming disillusioned with Engg, along comes "DAL". He was really inspirational.. he really inculcates that engg mindset into you. Space vs. cost vs. time. Simply wonderful to see a genuine guy putting in his best effort, and he is a really busy guy. So appreciate him for goodness' sakes. We are lucky to have him teach us!!

A bit boring, but thats more because the course itself was boring, and it was nice to see him make a genuine attempt. Quizzes were easy, final was a bit tricky, but quite doable.

bad lectures that I would've never attended without the pop quizzes. Midterm and final are mostly about memorizing his lecture notes, and the two class tests are about memorizing the problem sets. All exams are very long and detailed (though doable) and you have to cram every last detail from his notes.
