I have had Maves for Theory I and II, and he is, by far, my favorite teacher at CofC. He is flippin hilarious, helpful, and he makes theory interesting. I love Maves!!

Subjects aren't too hard if you can pick up on things easily and teach yourself. Will help you if you go to his office. Do your homework at least half the time or he'll lower your grade. Doing homework really helps with tests and quizzes. Final is hard, but he'll give you a good grade if he knows you're trying.

Pretty cool professor, not the best clarity-wise, but take him with an express class and he only gives four 100-question "quizzes". They're not easy, but he curves them like a madman (last one I took he added 30 points).

Very Quirky. If you don't have any background in theory before taking his class, go to fundimentals. Maves will only confuse you. I've taken a lot of theory, and I try not to listin because I'll only get confused. Way too much energy. He doesn't check attendance much. Too bad he's the only theory teacher. I suggest getting a tutor.

he's kinda confusing in class. just throws a bunch of info at you. but you have to take him anyway because he's the only theory teacher. so just take good notes, ask questions, and signing up for theory lab wouldnt hurt. make sure to go to class.

funny man but expects u to know all about jazz by listening to a few songs and reading a book. tests are terrible, almost all listening w/ no words-very hard. U hear a lot of good music but I can't say I learned much. He does let u out an hour and a half early. No easy A like I thought. C+ instead

Maves is the worst teacher i have ever had. He is scatterbrained, very unclear, and crazy.. Also, if you don't understand something...expect him to look at you like you are crazy. He also makes up his own terms and it took me a whole semester to learn lingo.

Very nice guy but class is very hard. If you want an easy A, this class won't give it to you. Quizzes are 100 question tests that are very detailed. Know your music. . .to pass it you better live, eat, breathe and sleep music!

Class is not that hard, but you better know what your talking about before going in there. Does not do well in describing material, he thinks his vague jokes are teaching instruments, just left me scratching my head. Music Dept. at CofC is bad in general.
