Amazing experience with this professor. He really cares about his students and is extremely helpful during office hours as well as in class. Classes were always super interesting and the time FLEW because of how fun he made it. He presented lots of great examples that made it easy to grasp the concepts. Take a class with him if you get the chance!

McCabe the most self-absorbed and self-righteous professors I had the disbenefit of knowing at Colgate. He was obsessed with his own ideas and work he had done for obscure philosophy journals and he would spend every lecture discussing what he had wrote and flip-flopping on his own self-critique. I stopped by his office once and he sent me away.

Worst professor I have had at Colgate. Very narrow minded, and presents his personal opinions as if he were a prophet reciting the scriptures. His consistent narcissism made it extremely easy to get a good grade. I learned early on in the class that if you refrain from speaking your own mind and just feed him back his thoughts, he will love you.

He came off as pretentious in his lectures. He's really smart, but is very blunt and even rude at times. He ALWAYS showed up to class 5 minutes late and kept us 5 minutes afterwards making me late to my next class.

Very very into the fact that students must have a great amount of respect for their professors, rubbed it in our faces a bit too much. However, he can be very helpful in office hours with writing papers.

ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE. Completely unhelpful in his office hours and couldn't answer direct questions. Would give advice on papers then disregard it, saying everything he suggested was wrong and then give a bad grade. Played favorites and was very scrambled and unclear; he sounded like he was arguing with himself when he spoke. terrible.

Professor McCabe is easily one of the best professor's I have ever had. He explains everything extremely well and is extremely helpful on papers. He's a tough grader and really forces you to think, but if you do the readings and put in the effort it will pay off. Class discussions were always interesting, cares about student opinions - a must take

I was interested in Philosophy when I came, but after this class I knew I was too dumb for it. :( Really hard grader, but I could never figure out what he wanted and improve. 8:20 class was awful, though it would probably be much better around 1:20. Take if you love philosophy or don't mind a crappy grade in a class you don't need and won't love.

He is one of the worst professors I have ever had. While he is very good in terms of office hours and accessability, he is extremely narrow minded and does not encourage free though in the classroom at all. This is especially obvious in the way he grades his tests and papers. The only person he would ever give an A to is himself.

McCabe is a terrific teacher. Anyone who could keep me awake at a 9:20 class has to be. However, he is a much harder grader than you would expect. If you are looking for a great class, but not an easy A, then take McCabe, but if you want an A, don't take a class with him.

He is a really good professor. His lectures are stimulating and he draws excellent comparisons to everyday life. He is a really hard grader though and expects a lot of his students on their papers and exams. I was not expecting him to be as hard as he is on them.

Awesome teacher, great guy in general. He has the ability to talk about yesterday's Jets game and Kantian philosophy with the same general ease and pleasantness. Leads great discussions and is really accomodating when you need extensions or have problems. If you're interested in Philosophy don't go through Colgate without taking one of his classes.

McCabe is awesome! He is hard, but class is always a blast. I decided to major in philosophy mainly because of this guy. His presentation of material is the clearest of everyone i've had at colgate. He is painstaikingly precise in his presentation.
