Honestly the worst professor I've ever had. Treats his gen-ed classes as if they are graduate level and gives quizzes EVERY single class. Do not take him, ever.

I would read analysis before I read or watch the plays to get a better understanding. My advice is to RECORD EVERYTHING he says in class on your phone. I did this to go back to for the exams and it helped me TONS. He is a super hard grader. Quiz every class and you have to read like 40-100 pages before those quizzes. So it takes up a lot of time

English was always my favorite subject, but this class got me the worst grade Ive ever gotten in five semesters of college. Im good at English, but for a 200 level course there was way too much work, not enough assistance, and he graded way too harshly. Avoid this class at all costs.

He's definitely a tough grader, but Dr. Phillips is more than willing to go over your papers with you and explain exactly what he wants. If you take advantage of his office hours and really want to improve, you should do just fine. He's energetic and passionate and makes class interesting!

Worst professor I have had yet. AVOID HIM AT ALL COSTS. I am an English Major and usually do really well on papers. He failed me everytime because he literally just didn't like me. Very biased and opinionated. Prepare to most likely fail or have your gap plummet.

If you have the option to take another professor, do it. He grades VERY harshly. You have to read A LOT every week and write papers on the reading before discussing it in class. If you don't comprehend the story the way he does he will most likely give you a D. I wish I would've actually learned something from this class other than his rants.

He is very dramatic and over-the-top. Gets off topic very easily. He makes you read A LOT. Grades very harshly. Makes you write papers on things you have not yet discussed in class. I would not let my worst enemy take this class!

He loves english. He is very passionate about what he teaches and he loves when students are excited about english, too. He is a harsh grader but you will definitely leave a much better writer than you came in. If you participate, then he will make sure you do well. If you don't participate, then good luck...

Definitely biased when grading assignments. Only provides 1 or 2 office hours normally during common class times. Incredibly rude and inconsiderate to his students. Over half of our class dropped with in the first 2 weeks. He is incredibly arrogant and never stays on topic during class. Thinks his class is the most important thing in the world.

If you can avoid taking him, I would suggest it, for there's no way you're coming out of his class without a punch to your GPA. Read everything, don't just google the analysis. He is a biased grader when it comes to papers and tends to grade more on opinion. He speaks really fast and keeps the class lively, but can be hard to keep up with sometimes

VERY hard grader. You must write what he wants to read. This is not a forum for self-expression. A LOT of reading. I'm generally a straight-A student. This is the only B I've gotten at CSU (so far).

He is a very tough grader. His assignments are easy. The way he grades papers will make you very angry because he is very bias and you have to make sure you read all of your assignments. The readings can be more than 100 pgs. and you may have two different assignments to read. Good Luck ad stay focused.

He offers extra credit to his survey courses and stresses the importance of reading every text assigned, even the difficult ones such as Paradise Lost. Please, please, please complete the three analysis essays as early as possible in the semester because the texts increase in difficulty and culminate with Paradise Lost, an extremely tricky read.

I was interested in learning something. I thought the course wouldnt be that hard but boy was I in for a rude awakening. He states one thing then changes it upon grading. I've had to email him numerous times to get clarity and he didn't respond. Hopefully the next professor will be more compassionate and available.

The class wasn't boring, for English, he kept it pretty interesting. Though, for some reason I made a C in his class. Took another English professor (whose class I made an A in) and she asked me if I had changed my writing style since making a C in Dr Phillips class......no
