Comment:
My classmates did not seem to like Prof. Rose. However, this is because they failed to understand simple graphs presented in microeconomics. If you are capable of reading graphs and using logic, then David Rose is a great professor. He gets too much hate for assuming you have a high school level education of algebra, which is necessary for econ.

Between zoning out during his rambling stories that waste time and his jokes that never land, he then rushes to cram in hard to understand information. You will be left to figure out a lot outside of class. It is almost tempting to skip class and teach myself everything because of how much time David wastes and how little he actually teaches.

One of the worst professors I've had. His lectures are literally just babbling on about nothing pertaining to the lecture. I didn't learn a thing and this was just Econ 1001.

This was w/o a doubt the worst professor I've had in my 5 years of college. He belittles you for asking Q's, so don't bother. His lecture's will leave u more confused. He also leaves all of his hmwk open throughout the semester. Which is great... if you NEVER procrastinate. If you do, I'd advise you too look elsewhere. Smart man, terrible teacher.

Professor Rose, if you are a Economics major, is a professor I highly recommend. He teaches courses at more of a graduate school level and is able to explain, summarize, and clarify complex economic principles and theories that otherwise may be difficult to understand.

Literally the hardest class I've ever taken and I usually can figure out every tough class. It makes me so angry because the test are irrationally hard. If you are in enrolled in this class immediately go get another teacher if you do not want your GPA to suffer. Believe me! I am usually an A-B student and have no idea what I am doing. Terrible.

If you enjoy connecting book-to class, this is not the class for you. He is a soap box teacher that teaches it the way he believes it should be taught, while consistently reminding you he is the teacher. No note slides, no computers, no visuals. His notes are him speaking "Roman Numeral I. double space, indent" followed by lengthy content.

Do you like feeling dumb? If so, this is the professor for you. Do you like wrecking your GPA? If so, this is the professor for you. He tells the class at the beginning of the semester that he'll teach the class as if you were all going to major in economics. He wasn't lying. He has a PhD and teaches his basic courses like a higher level course.

David Rose was an awesome professor to have as my first teacher at UMSL. He is super down to earth, pretty funny, and animated and very smart. The class is tough, he tells you in the beginning to stay on your game the whole time. I should have listened! He's open to questions which is good, word them nicely.

HARD,i hated the class. He does a good job at making you feel like an idiot. Also, when it comes to the non important things, he will talk soooo slow. then the important part he finishes within seconds.

He is not the most friendly or approachable professor, but he's fair. His tests are difficult if you don't attend class or take good notes, but he offers opportunities for extra credit and curves some tests. Recommended for people who are truly interested in Econ because he knows his stuff and teaches it well. Not for those who just need the credit

Terrible lectures; good luck if you can't grasp concepts IMMEDIATELY & take good notes as there is NO HOPE FOR YOU as he WON'T repeat himself! The book only gives you concepts & ZERO of the formulas he requires you to remember! Dude has a HUGE ego & makes you feel dumb for asking Qs. Tests: not enough time & written poorly! TERRIBLE at teaching!

The most difficult class ever taught by a very difficult teacher. Runs his class very strictly which doesn't make for a fun atmosphere to be around. Makes you feel somewhat bad or dumb for asking questions. Your grade depends on two hard exams and the final exam. Online homework is difficult and not graded on completion. Good luck!

No questions answered in a serious manner, wont repeat anything, bad at simple arithmatic,HUGE EGO, and annoying. He is the department chair which explains why the ECON dept at UMSL is so f'd up.The book will only take you so far on his tests which are VERY HARD so take excellent notes or you dont have a prayer.Prime example of whats wrong withUMSL

He is extremely smart, almost too smart to teach this material. He doesn't repeat anything he says. I tried to ask him what my grade was before the final exam and he told me how to figure it out myself (which was confusing and I never figured it out), so I got an awful grade. I don't recommend taking this class.

This class is intended for the more intellectual and open-minded. I liked how he did not answer "stupid questions" and kept going and did not slow the class down. Yes the class was hard but very thought provoking - almost made me want to major in economics.

He is unclear when he teaches, and if he doesn't like your question he will make you feel dumb. His 2 tests were extremely hard( the 2nd test the majority of my class failed with a 20 point curve!). The final is just the 1st & 2nd tests put together so if you know them the final is cake.

Dr. Rose is brilliant. He's passionate about his field and does a fantastic job explaining abstract concepts. He's no middle school teacher-- if you want someone to find you after class to make sure you get it, he's not that teacher. But at a university, that is totally appropriate
