Do not take his class if you can avoid it. STS students... Make sure you plan your degree around the 308 globalization class with another professor. He doesn't teach. He expects you to read without having objectives to understand. His pop quizzes are arbitary. He literally sits at the front of the class talking and asking dumb rhetorical questions

Avoid this professor. His classes are the biggest waste of time. He will give you hundreds of pages to read every week and on top of that he will email you even more readings! If you do take him, just agree with whatever he says.

Missed class a lot and the books he had us read were pretty bad, except the first. Assigned 2 papers and a short project. Pretty easy but didn't get a lot out of the class. Also seemed to talk down to students if he disagreed with their contributions to discussions.

Took him for honors 308. You will have to read a lot. No textbook, he provides readings. You will be required to do 1 presentation, 2 essays, and 2 exams. For honors, 1st is 8pgs, 2nd is 10pgs. The exams are take home and consist of 5 essays. His class requires a lot of reading but I am coming out of this class more knowledgeable. Would take again.

I had Dr. Rothenberg for HSS-403-010 and it was a great experience. The class discussions were very interesting and engaging every time. The course provided a unique opportunity for students who enjoy music and like to analyze the effects that it has on our lives and nature in general. He is a fair grader and the paper topics are never boring.

Took him honors. Two exams, multiple essays + short answers on each. Two papers, one 10 pages long. Got an A. Must know books/readings very well to succeed. Fair grader, an 80-something on one exam was an A. Believes in environmentalism but not zealous or arrogant about personal beliefs.

He's a pretty good guy, knows his stuff. Was not in class much of the 2nd half of semester because he was promoting his book. As a result I think he went a little easier on the grading. Just make sure you do the reading because there is A LOT of it.

Very easy teacher. All you really have to do is show up and write something good is doesnt matter if you agree with his views or not. Alot of time is spent watching movies just be sure to pay attention.

As far as tests/grading he's okay, but I felt horribly uncomfortable with him as a professor because of how much of an outspoken liberal he is. The classes are threatening to non-liberals, and he lets liberal students berate the others.

i've had this man for STS 257, STS 258, and STS 347. he is outstanding. his knowledge of the subjects surpasses what any other professor would bring to the classroom. he has a way of letting students lead discussions instead of just sitting and staring.

Oh, please! This was awful! He missed 9 classes last semester because he was on tour playing the clarinet! He allowed a student, not a TA, to show movies and run the class when he was out! He's a tough grader. Just stay away!

This professor is a really good professor. One thing that you must do though in this class is to actually agree with the professor. If you don't you'll probably get a lower grade. Thats how most english classes are. Tests aren't too bad if you read.
