He is a fantastic and knowledgeable teacher. I wish I was a history major so I could take more from him. He is a fair grader and as long as you do the work, you should be fine.Also you are allowed to do the work ahead of time, as I did, and he said that I didn't need to attend class for the last two weeks because I already did the work. Loved it!

An extremely easy class! No tests only daily half page responses on the reading which is easy and 3 small papers and speeches. The major down side is to the class is that IT IS SO BORING. I fell asleep every day but it really didn't matter considering your whole grade is earned outside of class from the book or your own research. I recommend.

Sandgren's class makes me fall asleep every day! ITS SO BORING I WANT TO CRY. But he's a fair/easy grader and there are NO tests which is awesome. Personally, didn't feel like I learned that much, wouldn't recommend taking unless all you are looking for a really easy A. Try an upper level hist if you actually want an interesting humanity credit.

Professor Sandgren is amazing. He knows a lot about Africa and history in general. I never once have felt that he didn't know what he was talking about. Only drawback can be that some history does get boring...and he can get excited about it when you aren't. This leads to some really boring class days. Still, I would recommend him to anyone.

Starts out boring, but once he warms up over the semester he is hilarious! He has an awesome mustache too. He is pretty difficult, but if you do your stuff, he respects you and is willing to help you out. Participate and you'll be fine.

He tends to get very long-winded, which can make the class drowsy, but he really knows his stuff - especially when it comes to African History. He taught in Kenya for about 9 years (I think) and was there when they gained independence. He's very well-informed and tends to grade easily.

I really enjoyed this class. Dr. Sandgren makes history enjoyable, and he is very helpful when it comes to assignments and papers. If it is done well enough in the draft, you don't have to do a final paper. That was nice! Great prof!

What an excellent professor! During my education at Concordia, Dr. Sandgren's Rise of Modern Africa class was most memorable..I think a big part of it was his knowledge of and enthusiasm for the topic as well as his genuine concern for students.
