Comment:
This class is super easy. It's graded mostly based on exams, and those are just memorization. He provides so many opportunities for extra credit. He's really kind and accessible outside of class. He's also funny, but goes off on tangents a lot. Bottom line: easy A, if you're having difficulty he's super forgiving

Comment:
I talked to some of the other people in my class, and we all agreed that this class was incredibly hard, because the only grades were the listening tests and the midterm and final. And the tests require memorization of facts for dozens of songs that you have to recognize just by listening. I almost skipped the final because of stress.

History of Jazz: Dave is friendly and nice, but his lectures are all over the place and can be quite boring. It is not an interactive class at all, and he just talks about whatever comes to mind. If you want an exciting class on Jazz, don't take this. However, if you are looking for a really easy class, I would recommend this one.

I've taken both BASIC MUSICIANSHIP and MUSIC & FILM with Dave. His enthusiasm for the material is catching. He is very approachable and understanding. He does have a tendency towards over-political correctness and overly apologizing which is kind of funny. I look forward to taking THEORY 2 with him this fall.

Dave's class was fantastic!!! He is so enthusiastic and genuinely in love with what he teaches that it automatically passes on to his students-at least it did to me. I have zero musical background and yet I had no trouble following his lectures. Also: he's funny in a really cute way. You must take a class with Dave Sanford if you're at MHC.

David is obviously in love with what he teaches, but if you need structure in class, definitely do not take his courses. He usually just talks about whatever comes to mind, and it's really really difficult to keep on track with what's important and what's not. Really friendly and energetic though - great guy.

Basic musicianship with dave was incredible... he's fun to talk to and understanding. he works well with people who are being introduced to music, but doesn't do a whole lot in the upper levels because he sometimes has a hard time explaining more difficult concepts.

Overrated -- EXTREMELY nice, but not a good teacher. So unclear. Breezed over important information.

Same comments given by the green face one... You can't say that he's bad at teachin', but it is just a bit too difficult for him to explain jazz history without getting tons of music theories in... in a good way... but non-music majors have hard times~~~`

He's a wonderful guy, but rambles a lot in class making it difficult to understand and follow. He's intelligent though and definitely knows his music stuff!
