Dr. Zern is amazingly intelligent and insightful. If you want an easy A, he is not your guy. He inspires me to this day, well over 15 years since my classes with him. We need more professors like Dr. Zern, who challenge people who are used to being academically, intellectually, and emotionally coddled. Thank you, Dr. Zern, for raising the bar.

Very challenging and hard but a consummate professional with the highest degree of integrity. He challenges students to question their beliefs to take them to a higher level of knowledge and understanding- to question what they think they understand and believe... the true goal of higher education. One of the best professors I ever had!

Had him freshman year and his basic goal was to make everyone cry. Told me I'm not smart enough to ever amount to anything and, after a friend told him all about her very detailed goals in life and her persuit of becoming a rabbi, told her that "that's great, you will make an excellent jewish housewife someday." He's really an ****.

My class was called "Pursuit of truth". It was basically a little frustrating discussion in which Zern led us in circles and denied doing it. I don't think that i learned anything except how annoying somebody can be. I guess if you want to learn how to deal with radicals who are completely stuck, take his class. Could be good for a diplomat I guess

I took 2 classes with Zern and enjoyed neither. The upper level one did not contribute to my knowledge as an educator in the least. He does not listen to students and has very little clue as to what secondary teaching actually involves. Get your certification somewhere else!

I graduated in 1999, but just discovered this site and can't resist contributing. I had this guy for my freshman seminar (in '95). His class was absolute torture. He was the only prof to give me a bad grade that semester. I think having him as a professor killed what little self-confidence I had
