Comment:

If you plan on going into Computer Forensics/Security get to know Dr. Cook. He is very easy to talk to and understanding. Most people say take him online, but I found that he was great to take in class. And if he gets to know you, he will go out of his way to help you with things like letters of recommendation.

Very nice guy, but he doesn't teach! He knows class time is a waste, yet he threatens to deduct professionalism points for those who don't show up. If you can take his classes online you are better off because class time is pointless. All of the tests and assignments were online anyway.

he's a nice enough guy, but he doesn't make any sense. attend class and give it some effort. class time is a breeze because he never actually talks about anything significant, he just tells stories and jokes the whole time.

Really nice guy to talk to and joke around with, but class time is a waste and you will only learn from other students and projects. The textbook was useless besides using it for a presentation. Some classes we did nothing but watch a powerpoint and video. Too much Windows Phone nonsense while iPhone and Android hold 95% of the market

Class was online, when it should NEVER have been so I don't blame Cook for the effectiveness of the class. Nice guy, but requirements for assignments are IMPOSSIBLE to understand & never clear. Will answer questions, but answers are useless. Understanding and generous grader though, put some effort into your work & you'll easily get a B or higher

His lectures are scattered. He seems to have a hard time getting his thoughts together. Most of the projects he gives you the date it's due and tells you what he wants but expects you to figure out everything on your own. In his classes you teach yourself because he has no idea what's going on.

Had Dr. Cook for 2 classes-IS343 and IS444. He doesn't teach-endless PowerPoint & online videos straight from MSDN and such. Requires every student to "teach" 1 chapter of the text as a presentation. Always a group project. 343-multichoice tests with big curves; 444-no tests. Says "in terms of doing this" every other sentence. Mandatory attendance.

More info: Tests are curved (multi choice in some classes, projects in others), assigns a group project in all of his classes (3-5 people), powerpoints w/ screenshots for everything (in lieu of actual project files), so things are easily faked. Having to PPT everything will drastically slow you down. His degree isn't even related to coding.

I've had all of his classes for Software Design. He cannot program and does not know the answer to most questions. You will not learn anything unless you teach yourself -- everything is PPTs of nothing or videos straight off MSDN. Assignments are easy, but since you have to self-teach all the material, they can take awhile. Not recommended.

He si flexible Schedule wise, i play 2 sports, WAS an RA and in ROTC, he works with you if you have to miss out, hesa always available to help during his office hours, great prof, tests? IMPOSSIBLE, but he'll pass you if your failing thru projects or just a random attendance bonus, anyone there sign a paper-gets like 50pts free

I have taken Dean for several classes. He is very smart and very helpful. Your grade will depend heavily on tests and a group project. Tests are hard, but he gives study guides with similar or exact questions you will see on the test. Great prof, but he doesn't believe anyone is perfect, so don't expect to get perfect scores on projects.

This class is different from his other classes. It is more laid back and easy. The test are still a book but he does curve. Since this is a class with usually all seniors he really is laid back and lets you do whatever you want. I will miss you Dean.. you the man... RIP SCREENSAVERS

Cook is a great teacher. His tests are damn near impossible so dont bother studying. He curves them bigtime and they are open book. He really cares about his students and what he does. The projects are sometimes long and a bit of a challenge but fun.
