Overall she was fine. Her class was not that hard, but towards the end we had about 7 assignments. She rarely put grades in the grade book and she was always a couple minutes late. She didn't teach anything about English more about her life and stories. Very off topic. She was very nice and funny tho and her class was very chill.

I took Mythology online with her, and it was a pretty straight forward test. The only thing I would have wanted was better grading times (She'd take weeks to grade some assignments) But other than that, she was great!

The text book is 100% required for this course and you will read almost the entire thing. She tells you this in the syllabus and you will not pass the tests with out having done so. Attendance is not mandatory but is encouraged because she will ask at least 1 lecture specific question per test. I passed with a 4.0 so it's entirely possible to do.

Horrible professor (at least for world religions) because more than 80% of lecture and class discussions were off-topic and irrelevant to religion. My advice is to read the book thoroughly to study for the exams if you want a 4.0. She grades "participation", but as long as you attend class regularly, she'll give you full points.

Professor Hartley's class was very thought provoking. She has lived a very interesting life and uses her experiences to enhance the message. I was a bit disappointed to see some people on here digging in to her for their shortcomings. This class is not one where you learn to write. It's a class to learn concepts on writing a research paper. -Codey

This professor was very clear with feedback. She was a great guide and she cared about the students. The only thing to work on is due dates and clear dates as to when things needed to be turned in.

Be prepared for TONS of reading and writing in her online class. You need to be very self-motivated and determined in order to get a decent grade in this class. If you're not, I'd recommend taking a classroom based English101 instead. Professor Hartley seemed nice but the workload and expectations were just too much for me.

This is the first English class I've ever enjoyed. A lot of her criticism is unfair, she believes in critical thinking and you will need to be good at it to pass her class. She definitely teaches but don't expect her to teach where to put a semi-colon, this is after all college. Prepare to do a lot of reading and riding, it takes hard work to pass.

I wish I found this site prior to starting this quarter. Denise Hartley is a horrible teacher. Unclear instructions, takes forever to respond to questions IF she responds at all, and never once posted any lecture or teaching on the assignments that were given. She pretty much grades you on how much you know coming into the class. ZERO teaching!

Horrible. Lost all of my work then failed me because of her mistake. Had to email her several times to get a reply weeks later. This was a hybrid class, but she cancelled class with little notice half of the time. Would not recommend to anyone; she ruined my GPA. I'm retaking the course with another professor.

I took her hybrid course. I'm going to be completely honest.. She was late 5-10 minutes everyday, her class was extremely monotonous, and the only thing that kept me up in this class was my two best friends. If you need this class, find another professor or take it with friends. Decent professor but I don't recommend her.

She was always extremely late, often as late as 20 minutes. Once she got there, she'd just tell stories about her life. We'd have to pester her for clarification on assignments. Her grading made no sense. After one time I turned in a half-assed paper and got a 100%, I stopped putting as much effort into her class and focused on my harder classes.

She's a nice woman that has led an interesting life, but she's lacking in punctuality and clarity. She didn't instruct on how to write a paper; so it's very important to know how to going in.

By far the easiest class. My class was at 11 AM and ended at 11:50. Each day, Professor Hartley would come to class at EXACTLY 11:09. EVERYDAY. But I'm not complaining. She is very nice, class time goes by fast.

I would not recommend her for this class. She does not let you share your opinion or feelings about any topic. She also do not grade anything until the end so you have no idea what your grade is. I would not recommend her at all.

Horrible if you like things cut and dry often got off on useless rabbit trails during lectures due dates and instructions constantly changed and we waited for 2 hours to get our assignments back during the time she told us to show up and she never came. i got a 4.0 so it was easy but frustrating and you have no idea how you are doing till the end.

She was great for English 101 a few years ago. If you do the work you get a good grade that's all there is to it. Dont goof off in class and you'll be fine. I don't remember her tests being hard and I seemed to get good grades on my papers, an easy A. She's great and very personable if you take the time to talk to her, she still recognizes me if I am there and I took her class over three years ago! Great lady and good advice, it was a great starter course for college.
