BRUTALLY hard open-book tests (I'm not sure if they really measure one's aptitude). Yet, he does curve the grades. He usually explains how to solve the problems after the tests. Sometimes refers to concepts beyond the scope of a beginning programmer. Instruction pace is slow at first then really picks up fast. You'll have to work long and hard.

Prof Ray is darn tough. Took the class, put in 20-25 hours a week, made a B. He grades so hard he MUST put a big curve on or most folks would fail. I took the class, yet feel I know nothing about C++. He will assign projects way before you know enough to complete them. He is helpful one on one. Do yourself a favor, take someone else.

Professor Ray is not a very good teacher but he CURVES A LOT! Definately try and get the other guy that teaches the class but Ray is ok if you pay attention in lab and learn from the book.

Always thinks he knows more than any student. As a teacher, I guess he's supposed to do that. But his lack of knowledge considering modern technology is frightening. He's quick to criticize your 410/411 project but half the time his criticisms aren't relevant. For our project, he went on forever about IP routing problems and he made no sense.

Worst teacher ever.His quizzes are outrageous, I'd study the book and I would still get 10's out of 40 points. He divides the quizzes up into three sections- poor, avg, and good then you have to walk in front of the whole class so they know what you got. Don't ever ask him questions either- he'll make you feel stupid. I reccomend not taking him.

I took his class a while ago and tell you what? I lost 5 lbs because of him. I just couldn't understand anything in his class. So, I read everything in the book, and got an A. So, take his class if you want to lose some weight T_T or if you can spend 5 hours/day on CS 150 or if you don't get impatient once your program has like 100 errors.

Professor Ray is a very smart man. But the only way to pass his class is to study the Malik book. And to get help from the recitations. Otherwise you will fail. His quizes are a bit radical and the only way you will pass them if you have already taken his class or you "Study!" that book.

Warning, the only way to pass this man's class is if you alreay took it before! Professor Ray is a brilliant man, but his quizes are Bull. They are so outrageous. And he can't understand why people fail them. He doesn't really clarify what the hell he wants you to do on the quizes. ODU needs to have more than one person teaching 150. My God!!!

Mr. Ray is a smart person. He has a lot of experience to back that up. He is also brutally honest with your work(s). I recommend taking his class because in the end, you'll be happy. I took his CS150 class, and I thank him for making it so hard. After 411W, I realize that Mr. Ray is one of the department's most brilliant and underrated professor.

Ray's requirements are vague and he won't teach you anything. You submit your papers, then he beats you up for doing it wrong. Of course, he only gave 2 of the 6 back before the end of the semester anyway. On the good side, his lectures are entertaining. Price is no better, you'll get an A or B regardless of what you do. In 411, he expects A LOT from you even though he's never clear on what he wants. Assignments are very vague! Spends too much time on the demos and never talked much about the SBIR or Manual. Also uses the word 'characteristics' an insane # of times. Ray knows the course well. You'll do well if you do the work! In the end, I'd take Ray over Price

I never had him for 150 so I can't comment on that. But he was great for 361...especially if you're in the majority who fail Zeil's awful class. Ray's version is much easier. He requires much less actual programming and you come away with a better understanding of the concepts you're supposed to learn in 361.

There is no point in going to the lecture. His notes do not help. His quizzes are difficult. He does a bell curve so if you can stick with the average you will get a C.
