Comment:

Definitely my favorite class and professor this year! DT is soo funny and he's not super strict like other teachers. He's so passionate about geology that I started to love it too! I learned so much from him. My advice is to go to class, take good notes and do his study guides & you'll do great. The only negative is that the lab book is $150.

BY FAR one of the most influential teachers Ive ever had. This is my third class with DT. DT is passionate, so smart and an excellent teacher if you go to his lectures. If not,youll fail but he makes everything so easy to understand. I wasnt even a Geology major but he inspired me to double major in it. Take his class, it will change your life.

Hardest class I've ever taken. He's a good person, but a poor teacher. If you do not have a decent background in geology you WILL have trouble. I spent 17 hours studying for one test and received a 65%.

Comment:

The best professor ever! I am not one to sit in the front, or answer questions, but DT makes you feel comfortable in the lecture. Attendance was not mandatory, but honestly if you don't go you will struggle. Definitely would recommend!

DT is a great professor, especially for the upper level classes. His specialty is in soil science, so he will find a way to work that into whatever he's teaching. You have to show up to lectures, since he usually doesn't follow the textbook very closely the online powerpoints are difficult to understand without the notes he provides in class.

If you can, take him. He knows his stuff and cares for his students. Explains things well, keeps things entertaining. Fill out his study guides and read over the notes and you're good. If you take him, take Kelley for the lab because she is super chill and helpful.

DT is awesome! Everything about the class makes it obvious he really loves what he does. Don't skip too many classes, because most info is given in lecture and the powerpoints are kinda sparse on their own. I've heard the TAs can be kind of hit-or-miss, but mine was awesome as well! DT made me love geology for a semester. Definitely take him.

DT is, by far, one the most influential people I've ever met. Needless to say, I became a geology major after Geo50 with DT. If you get the chance, go on the field trips! Finally, go to class, ASK QUESTIONS, read, take notes, and you will do well. As far as the labs go, talk to your TA a little. They want to you to have some fun with it.

WORD up...that's all there is to say about this man. His beard is majestic as he mightily staggers like Gandolf the Gray. Every word from him is holy. He uses polar magnetism to pull you from your current major into the realm of geology, the dark side. Embark on his field trips and you'll never return to the other side. His middle name is awesome.

DT is a great teacher! very passionate about what he does, and really makes the class interesting. His tests are mainly from the notes when he speaks, so you might want to get a mini tape recorder or bring your laptop that records. Hard to get a perfect A on his tests, but getting a B shouldnt be too hard. Class was fun, and informative.

DT is freakin awesome. His class wasnt too easy but he made everything crystal clear and enjoyable. I never wanted to skip his class it was that great. Take good notes, read the book before tests, and youll get an A. Even if youre not interested in geology, hell spark your intrest because hes so enthusaistic and passionate.

He was an amazing teacher. I was dreading this class, but his passion and his sense of humor made this class one of my favorites. Going to class is a must though, because his tests come straight from his notes. As long as you study your notes and go to class, it's an easy A. I highly recommend him.

You should work some research with him. I worked with him and Hannan LaGarry at the University of Nebraska as a research assistant. I never realized I liked Geology! The man has a passion for Geology and sharing what he knows! He's truly a professor you'll never forget! 15 years ago!
