I loved Diane, don't get me wrong she is a great professor and a genius. Her class was awful. It was really hard to get through and because attendance isn't mandatory it was sometimes hard to show up to. The content can be boring and all of her notes are her words, so listen up in lectures because SHE is your textbook.

Comment:
Dr. Ciekawy's course was tough to get through. For an introductory class, it focuses heavily on case studies and you have to read three ethnographies over the semester. You are only graded by 3 exams and her lectures are very repetitive and boring. I would not recommend her class, especially not for non-anthropology majors.

Well, she is really a good teacher who is patient, kindness and knowledgeable. And she is really good at anthropology. She also provides some notes before the tests. But the class is not that easy, we need to read three books and understand the concept is really important.

Diane is really enthusiastic about anthropology. She has lots of knowledge on the topic, but just isn't the best at relaying it. She talks A LOT, and covers A LOT, but in reality you only need to know a little bit of what she covers. Requires your read 3 ethnographies that are kind of painful. As long as you get the notes it's easy enough.

Dreaded going to class. Passionate yet somehow boring. Has bad speech habits, like saying ok, now, or alright after most things she says. She likes to talk with her hands annoyingly and move around. Doesn't put a lot of info on slides, then she'll jump around topics. Did not enjoy. Hard to stay awake.

ciekway is rather crazy. confusing, boring, but passionate about the class. So many notes. no textbook. If you come to class and pay her mild attention you should get at least a B. Only points in the class are from exams so if youre not a good test taker you might run into some issues. Reiteration that she is super annoying, I hated going to class

Dr. Ciekawy is very kind and passionate about the subject. Her lectures are 90% verbal so you must attend class to do well. Don't really need to read the books but it will help. Helps to record lectures. Tests are pretty easy and she is really fair.

Dr Ciekawy is very intelligent, tolerant and widely read, with a high level of humanity and decency. She expects a high standard and is one of the few American profs I have met who do not dilute material to appear more popular or to suit the tastes of students!Taking her classes meant being in an intellectual environment.

Dr. Ciekawy is a wonderful professor; she offers a lot of intellectual insights that many other professors wouldn't be able to. She has mass experience in the field and it really shows in her teaching methods. The class I took most recently with her was a seminar-circle seating-and it really opened up discussion in a new way.

Professor Ciekawy is incredible. She remains one of my favorite professors. She is so intelligent and has so much experience in the field. If you are interested in Anthro, you will love her. You can learn a lot from her. Take advantage of any help she offers. Easy A if you read the books (they are great anyway, especially Nisa) & go to class

Boring. boring. boring. I could stand her lectures and her study guides had no useful material, often with repeats. Don't take this class unless you enjoy disorganized lectures and random test questions.

Horrible class...there are no notes she just stands there and "lectures" for two hours and its as exciting as watching paint dry...reading the books are a pain and tests are hard...if you want a good nap and a bad grade take this class...

She's a great prof overall. Her lectures can be dry, but if you take notes and read the novels it's VERY easy to get an A. Don't buy the textbook, because you don't EVER need to even open it, but make sure you go to class. Missing a 2 1/2 hour lecture makes making up the notes very difficult. Overall an interesting class and a good prof to take it

Her lectures are kind of like reading a textbook. I find anthropology interesting, though, so I was able to stay awake. She is pretty straightforward. You don't have to buy or read a textbook but she assigns you small, novel-sized books to read. They are a lot more interesting than a textbook. Three tests, no papers, no frills.

She has an almost unpenetrable screen of jargon but ... if you can get through it it is worth it. She knows what she's talking about. I'm just not sure if she knows how to correctly teach it. I'd recommend her classes - they make you step it up a notch.
