Comment:

Dr. McFarland is the best! Can't wait to take her for more psych classes. Yes, she does primarily do lectures, but she tries to engage the class with questions and activities - it's what YOU put into it as the student. Her tests come STRAIGHT from the PowerPoints. The other assignments aren't too challenging, and I found them insightful/applicable.

Comment:

She's a nice lady, but poor teacher. The class was 3 hours of straight lecture, she goes off topic and rambles about her personal life, and the exams are horrible. She doesn't proofread, questions aren't clear, and nearly all questions have "a&b" AND "all of the above" as options. The material is easy, but she makes the exams extremely difficult.

This has to be one of the most boring courses I've ever taken with the most boring prof. Some people like her but I can't stand listening to her lectures for 3 hrs every monday night. Attendance isn't "mandatory" per se, but you get 5 easy points for going. Tests are tricky but if you study a normal amount you'll make a B easy. book rarely use.

Dr. Mac is engaging and unique. if you like structure, I would avoid her class. She sticks to the syllabus, but her teaching style is not precise. Assignments are manageable. Understand the definitions and concepts WELL for exams so you aren't confused with her multiple choice answers. Recommended. 2 books required.

Her tests are near impossible, set out to confuse you. Doesn't accurately test knowledge. Majority of multiple choice answers a "a" "b" "a&b" "all of the above" or "none of the above" confuses students instead of testing accurately, makes you second guess everything. She is also not very organized when it comes to meetings and being there on time.

She is a very sweet professor, but sometimes her teaching style is really irritating. I'm not the type of student that learns from memorizing Powerpoint slides, and basically that is what class & tests are. Sometimes forgets appointments or other matters, which can be frustrating. Papers and class activities are manageable, but tests are tough.

I really enjoyed her psych of men & women. Very interesting. However, her teaching style is hard to keep up with. You do not need to buy the book. There is a group paper and a few papers throughout the semester.

Tests are hard, but I really enjoyed her Basic Leadership class. She is scattered, a little cooky, and teaches some random information but this class actually did help me feel like I became a better leader and more well-rounded person. She cares about you as a person and is one of the nicest professors I've had. I'll definitely take her again!

Also under the last name 'Newbern'. She is a really nice person and she cares about her students. BUT, she shares about her personal life to the point of being unprofessional. Her classes are more like self-help/business than pscyhology. Prefers using "inspirational" anecdotes over empirical studies.

She was a very nice lady and very kind to her students. Lectures seemed a little bit irrelevant at times, but even more so, study guides don't always match the test and quizzes. Her test format is a little tricky so study and know EVERYTHING.

Comment:

(Married and now Dr. McFarland) I had a great time in her class (summer) it was way easy and interesting. Tests were mult choice and TA was really cool. The only "thing" was that she really likes to talk about "sex" (all the time). But since I am married it didn't really bother me. Great teacher and very willing to help.

I had Dr.Newbern for multiple classes and found here to be a great teacher. You had to sit through some BS, and go to class every time, but it was definitely worth it. She would do anything she could to help you. I highly recommend her for an instructor

Dr. Newbern was a cool lady. I had a B for most of the class, but I ended with an A (I guess she liked me?). The "Quizes" can be suprisingly Tricky and I got a lower grade on each consecutive one. But do well on the project and you should be golden. Can be a bit unclear on her objectives but overall it was a good experience for this business major.

she's a nice lady, but her class felt rediculous. unless you want to learn about "paradigms" and mental maps... take someone else.. she is nice though, so this isn't personal, just the basic leadership class.

Ive had her for 5 classes and if you just show up and do the work, which is a short paper every week from the book and a paper on what your doing for your internship you'll make an easy A. You get to learn a lot about Dr. Newbern in this class and shes a very cool lady!!
