I've had Dr. Grieser for multiple religion classes and each time I greatly have enjoyed the experience. His lectures are engaging and his quirky remarks can make sometimes less interesting material more enjoyable.

Wonderful professor. Difficult and challenging, but definitely knows his material. Lectures are his strength - go to class, take notes, study them, and you will be successful. His knowledge of Augustine, church history, and the early church fathers is fascinating. Wonderful preparation for graduate school in religion. Sarcastic, quirky, funny.

I'm really sad they quite offering the Humanities course. Dr. Grieser was always really funny and still remembers my name when I pass him in the hallway. He's a tough grader so if you don't have your dates down, you should worry, but I still want to take another class of his. Soooo funny!

Hysterical, if you don't mind him taking a swipe at your denomination time and again. Super smart. Know your dates/popes.

Vastly Intelligent. Hilarious lectures. Likes to make sweeping generalizations like, "you Baptists with your walk through Bethlehems...why?" in jest. Sometimes forgets points, because there's so much information upstairs, but has plenty of lecture notes. Take neat notes. Visit him at St. James Episcopal for some funny sermonizing!

Dr. Grieser is hilarious! He is also good at making the material interesting by putting his own spin on historical situations.

To his credit, Dr. Grieser is very smart. But if you want to take a class where you get more than one view, don't sign up for him. He's very set in his faith belief and tends to cut students off if they disagree with him. He also tends to make very broad generalizations about other faith practices. If you like to think outside the box, stay away

Grieser really knows what he is talking about, and is pretty good at answering questions but can be hard at times. I wouldn't take this if you have no interest in the Christian faith or don't want your perfect image of church to be altered. This class does challenge you alot but I would say the hardest part are his tests (very long).

Grieser is a bad teacher because he refuses to look at biblical literature from mulitple view points. If he doesn't like your point he will cut you off in the middle because he doesn't want to hear it. His test are realitivly easy, but the class isn't worth taking.

If you like to speak up, I don't recommend it. The man is crystal clear alright, but he doesn't take well to students questioning his (often unusual) viewpoints. On the other hand, he's enormously smart and engaging, and you'll come away from every class with something to think about. BTW, he wasn't grading my papers, so I can't help you there:)

Loves to throw provacative questions out there just to get the class talking. Essays are graded easy if you have the details. Prepare to have your faith challenged, but don't be afraid because he really knows what he is talking about. Took awhile to get used to him, but by the end of his class, I loved it.

The tests are on his lectures. He grades easy if you just write what you learn. His subject matter is not an easy one to be clear on so I think he does as good a job as he can. The man is also a genious. He knows way more than you and he is proud of it.

All I have to say is, Dr. Grieser is one of the most provocative professors I've had. Classes are always intellectually stimulating. Dr. Grieser is the authority on early Christian thought. Augustine, Augustine, Augustine!!

I liked him a lot.Now some of his lectures can be irrelevannt to what you need to know for the test, and sometimes is unorganized- But a wonderful teacher and discussion faciliator. If you don't like him, its probably just because you don't like that he challenges you to think about your faith. Get over it, we need to be doing that. Take him!

Yes, he's opinionated, maybe even arrogant. But the man is brilliant, and makes very profound points on a regular basis. Knows his stuff, and is willing to help you with papers and such, just ask him. Taught me more about writing a good essay than I learned in 4 years of high school english.

On might argue that the goal of a class is not to repudiate what the instructor tells you, and to think on your own, well DJ is not a fan of this. He is not interested in your opinions and if you ask a question the response will be "look at the text." Possibly the worst professor I have ever had.

Dr. Grieser is awesome; the only reason people don't like him is because they have a hard time accepting the fact that people can interpret the Bible in any way other than what their youth pastor told them. Definitely take this class; easy to make a good grade if you write down everything he says.

class time is not for preaching. he likes to hear his own voice. student made a good arguement in class and he talked about how, later, he would "blow it out of the water." Dr. Grieser is very interested in what Dr. Grieser has to say.
