He's very knowledgeable of the field and the exercises are very productive. He can be blunt during critique, but he isn't cruel or mean. If you are ever confused you need to make the effort to communicate. He loves when you ask questions. Bring in your work for review as often as possible.

Comment:

Few people are as masterful at their craft and at teaching as he is. He's passionate about subject material, students' progress, and the progress of the department. Very responsive to emails and gives students as much attention and feedback as possible. Lectures are long, but insightful. Work load is heavy, but not unrealistic or unnecessary.

Anyone telling you to stay away from Poynter is lazy. He gives a lot of work, but it's manageable and necessary. He's a solid choice, ask him a bunch of questions. He loves student participation.

He's not that good at he's job, he once made a kid cry, because he got a D. Some of the kids don't like him but are afraid to admit it. He made me get a low grade on my thesis film. Even though the story was excellent.

Perspective/layout. You will learn a lot. He will put you under great amounts of stress. Clashes with some personalities. I do recommend - but I also recommend that you otherwise clear your schedule, and don't take tough crit too personally.

Knows his stuff but has kind of an attitude. He is impatient and has obvious favorites, very much whatever he says goes, treats some students as if they were five years old. His explanations are clear but it is hard to be in the same room as him for so long, he also is very negative in critiques. It's like he hates everything.

There are these little habits of his that bug me. And he seems really pretentious. That being said, he really knows his stuff. I'm not sure why everyone seems to love him, but he's a genius with perspective. I'd rather not take any course with him ever again, but unfortunately it seems like you don't really have a choice. Oh well. He's tolerable.

Don's amazing. He's the LAYOUT GURU. If you are interested in layout, you've gotta take his class...he really knows his stuff!
