Comment:

Gillman is a really great professor overall. As far as learning French grammar, he really helped refine my skills. His tests are long but overall easy. He gives extra credit likes its candy. However, he is pretty poor at understanding questions and is actually kind of disrespectful sometimes. His lectures are long too.

I have no idea what he has been talking about all semester. His lectures are so boring. He'll call on someone for a word, they say a word, and he fills in a bunch of connecting words to make it seem like they said the word he was looking for. Likes to give A's.

GIlman is AMAZING! I'm not a French major/minor, but he created an atmosphere that helped me learn A LOT! He speaks very quickly, but if you are willing to work with him, he is willing to work with you.

DO NOT TAKE HIM for a 50min class on MWF. His quizzes are 6-7 pgs long and his exams are 12-13 pgs long. He's a great prof but he's fast and very difficult. He gives 25mins for quizzes and 50mins for the exams. Several people in this class are panicked.

Mr. Gilman is a great professor who is very understanding and extremely helpful. He is willing to go the extra mile to help you. His class discussions are kind of boring but the papers are easy as long as you put in minimal time and the test are not to bad. I am taking another HONR class from him. Highly recommended.

Dr. Gilman is a wonderful, wonderful person, but his expectations for the tests are absurd. He expects you to essentially memorize every minute detail of each of the texts. Luckily, the papers are easy are worth way more for the final grade. You can easily scoot by without reading the texts, but it'll help with the papers a lot!

Professor Gilman is an amazing instructor, one of the best ever. He made the language and literature come alive for me and inspired a life-long love of the French culture and history. He's not an easy teacher, but I had him for 3 years and he's truly one of the finest and fairest there is. If you really want to learn, take his courses!

I had Dr. Gilman for several classes, and he ended up as my thesis adviser. He is incredibly intelligent, and his pronunciation (French and English!) is very precise, which makes it easy to follow along in class. He does not make things complicated unnecessarily, and I would recommend him for any class you consider.

Dr. Gilman is a great man. A very interesting professor who tells lots of interesting stories. He truly wants his students to do well as long as they attend class and put in effort.
