The first half of his class would be filled by senseless ranting. Tough grader, tests and quizzes entirely based on the textbook, nothing similar to content given on lectures.

I had Professor Phillips for History of Ships. I showed up for every lecture (unlike the rest of the class) and paid close attention. For the first half hour of every class, he would complain or just mess around in front of the class. His tests were outrageously different from the text (not sure he read it) and was an unfair grader.

He's funny, has a lot of great rants and is a pretty nice guy, however, this course is hard: 80% tests, 20 % quizzes (three quizzes, lowest dropped). Quizzes multiple choice, based off of textbook readings, which are easy enough, but the exams are HARD. If you leave out one detail (even if you don't think it's too important), he'll mark it down.

He expects you to learn 270 pages in two weeks. Asks the most unrelated questions ever. Talks fast and throws bunch of information from where he sits. You are lucky if he writes something on the board (if you can read his handwriting). I wrote 15 lines about a ship and did drawings took 25% of the grade off cause I didn't say it was fast.

He is the best teacher for humanities. Definitely take his courses because they are filled with humor, personal rants, and they are interesting. Readings are dense, but they are interesting nonetheless. Exams and quizzes based on readings and lectures. No complaints! Hands down the BEST!!!

There's a lot of reading, but he makes lectures interesting (he rants a lot, but I find his sense of humor great). Quizzes are reading based, exams are reading/lecture based. Honestly, my only wish is that he spaces out the readings more... Also, tests are 80%, so don't screw up.

This professor is all over the place. He doesn't follow the syllabus until he decides what chapters are on the midterm and final. The highest grade on the midterm was a 89 and the rest of the class received 50-78. Professor often goes off topic and it makes it difficult to follow what he wants for his exams. I suggest taking another humanitie

Lot of ranting on off-topic things but most of the lectures are hilarious and talks about personal experiences. Most exams are long essay format, typically 1 or 2 essay questions - but you must know the material.

I took this class last semester. I thought it would be an easy and interesting class but it was actually very boring. The exams were essay questions and it required you to know/memorize a lot from the book.

Everyone should take his class! Very knowledgeable, you will learn A LOT in a very short amount of time. His exams are not that difficult. Most people in the class end up getting an A.

I liked him a lot. His first test was hard but adjusted the final to make it easier. He was interesting and fun even though some of his rants were off topic. I would take another class of his. A- in the class.

Very interesting lecture. Very knowledgeable. No essays for this class. Some textbook reading. Likes to tell stories of personal experience, relevant to the material or things that are at least good to know.

Lectures can vary from very interesting or very boring, he tends to rant randomly which is quite entertaining. Tests are extremely difficult if you do not pay attention or do the reading. If you do the reading class will be easy.

He let us come up with the questions for the tests and then sent us back the answers. So i guess that makes him easy. Read the book because he will take things from the book. Has alot of extra credit trips to better your grade.

Awesome psych professor. Made the class very interesting. His tests are easy if you read the book and pay attention in the lecture. He grades VERY fairly, and he's a nice guy to talk to. Taking his Time course in 2006.
