He is very knowledgeable. Tests are mix of multiple choice and 2 short essay. Show up for class missing notes will affect you on the tests. I missed a few classes (didn't get notes) before the first test and barely passed it. Tests are not hard if you show up and pay attention. Do not be on your cell phone in class. Allows laptops to take notes

Dr. Shepardson was a very nice guy who was always there to talk. His class was straight lecture, but I think he did a pretty good job of trying to make the boring topics more interesting. Super sweet too as he wants to see you succeed.

Just straight lecture. Writes the terms on the board and gives you a "study guide" of the terms to know for the test. If you go to class and take good notes you'll be fine. Don't buy the book. Booklecture and I just spark-noted the other books as well. Overall, he's great and definitely taking again.

Never opened the textbook. No cumulative final. You have to take notes from his lecture, there are no slides or an outline. He jumps around a lot during lecture, which can make everything really confusing. I barely would have passed if I hadn't gone to the study sessions that were done.

first of all, dude is old enough to personally experience half the stuff he talks about. Very very very boring lectures. all he does is talk, you have to take notes from listening. he puts words on the board so you know how to spell them and that's it. if he wouldn't have got someone to do review sessions, i wouldn't have passed.

Shepardson gives amazing lectures, but be prepared to take lots of notes. He only gives 3 tests, which are difficult. However, 60% of the points are essay questions he gives you ahead of time. He is pretty clear, but if you miss something, he is extremely helpful about answering questions or talking to you after class. An overall great guy

Great class. He is a very good lecturer. Be prepared to take a lot of notes though. Don't buy the main textbook because his lectures follow along with the textbook pretty closely but buy all 4 novels and actually read them, there are questions on the test about them. Go to class and take good notes and you will do fine on the tests.

Strictly lecture and notes class. Tests are all multiple choice and an essay. He gives you five possibles at the start of each unit, then two are options on the test, you do one. He's a decent lecturer but you do have to go to class and take the notes. Reading is mostly optional.

If you do not like notes or lectures, his classes are not for you. However, I found his presentation to be very interesting and involved. He even has a small sense of humor to make it fun. His lecture approach is easy to follow and his pace is superior. Make sure you attend class and take lots of notes otherwise you may fall behind. Great proffesor

He's a pretty good teacher. There are many study sessions offered. If you attend those you will do fine on the tests. A lot of info to memorize and the study sessions help to talk about all the different people. I'd take with him again!

Classes are straight lecture. He puts terms up on the board to help with spelling. Only thing on overhead is some picture. Prepare to write a notebook full. Tests are extremely hard to prepare for. Gives a study guide that just has terms and people and does not help at all for the tests. Notes and book barely help for test. All around good guy tho.

boring class if this isn't your thing. i took it because i like shepardson. 4 tests 50 mc questions then essay. 1 10+ page paper. grades easy on essays and paper, but tests are hard. Too much material covered, too hard to remember all the details of 100's of treaties. you will take a ton of notes in this class, but he's a good professor

Dont buy book. Expect to write down every word he says I filled out entire notebook. Tests are pretty easy because the material is interesting. Grade based solely on tests. Funny when he yells when he begins something important.

Most people aren't doing too well on the tests, because they are extremely hard...and your grade is based only on tests............. :(

He is very interesting, but plan to take notes over every single word he says and study your butt off for the tests! Study guides are not generally helpful as they are very vague and do not touch most of the information on the tests

awesome class, awesome teacher. 3 tests 1 paper. You learn a lot. You need to read the books, but don't worry about the text, you don't need it at all. Take thorough notes and you will do fine, don't need to worry about dates unless he tells you to. The way he lectures is great, he really knows his stuff.

An oldie-but-goodie. For Military History, be sure to buy the books and read them all, save the main textbook. The WWII and Vietnam books are required to be read for the last test essays, so don't try to slag off near the end. 3 tests, 1 paper. Don't memorize dates. Wish he taught more at UNI.

Great class with a great professor. Shep covers all test material in his lectures (the books are by or means required or worth your money), and through studying, you will easily ace them all. One 10 page paper is required (easy). No need to remember dates either. Wish he taught more classes.

He is a great professor. You dont need to buy the book because everything you need to know is in his lecture. There are 4 test to take during the semester and he doesnt grade anything else. He knows the information and is a nice guy.
