Dr. Wehrs is one of the smartest people I have ever met. He takes his material very seriously and encourages student participation on a daily basis. There is a quiz everyday so, be prepared to read at home. His writing assignments and essays have very complex prompts but, as long as you go into office hours and ask for feedback youll do well.

Dr. Whers was extremely hard. I would not take his class again, nor would I recommend him to any one. He was not caring in a medical situation, and told me I still had to have my work turned in even though I was having surgery. I went to him to ask about my paper, and he would not take time to look at it with me. I dropped so I didn't fail.

My least favorite aspect of this class was the sudden bursts of intensity in his reading or lecturing that caught me off guard and made things awkward. Same goes for his tendency to call out early leavers. Work-wise, put in the effort and listen to feedback on your papers, since he takes improvement into account when deciding your final grade.

As a senior in English, I can say with 100% honesty that Dr. Wehrs Brit Lit course is the most unnecessarily difficult class that I have ever taken. His lectures are not only boring, but lack any concrete structure that aids in learning. He has an aura of arrogance and expects students to know as much as him. A LOT of reading and he grades harshly.

Dr. Wehrs is a difficult teacher, arguably too difficult for a core class. But everything he made us do was intended to help us evaluate how we read and write. In that aspect, I did grow. However, he took the fun out of what could be a fun class, and sees right through any dumbed-down argument. Take him only if you are ready to work.

I have always been good at writing and I genuinely enjoy reading, but Dr. Wehrs's class is without a doubt the most difficult class I have taken at Auburn. I only made an A because I spent hours each day doing work for this class. I really don't think a literature class should be this hard. Avoid him at all costs!!!!

A lot of people hate Dr. Wehrs because he is tough. I absolutely adore him. (Maybe it's because I'm an English major, but..) All he wants is genuine effort and improvement. Speak up in class and go to office hours. READ THE MATERIAL or you will NOT pass. People who don't do well with him usually do not work hard or prepare for class. READ.

He is very intense during class and has no issues calling out students who leave class early or do anything he perceives as disrespectful which makes for an awkward class period. His essay criteria is vague and he refuses to give As. He also gives an excessive amount of reading homework. If I could drop this class I would, it's not worth it.

Unless you are hardcore English major, I will avoid him at any cost. Yes I did receive A in his class but that is only because I literally spent at least 2 hours per day for his class. His class, reading assignments, writing exercises, essays, and quizzes are extremely difficult. I never had problem in English class, but only in his class.

I'm an Accounting major and I made an A in the class and am a much better writer now thanks to Dr. Wehrs. His lectures are long and difficult but he'll help you if you go see him; there's 30 pages to read per night so be prepared to dedicate a decent amount of time to reading but if you're willing to put in the effort it's so worth it

Dr. Wehrs does not care whether you pass or fail. He rarely explains what he wants from you and gives extremely specific quizzes. The class isn't worth it if your GPA matters to you. Save yourself; don't take Dr. Wehrs.

Though Dr. Wehrs is clearly an intelligent man and knows the material he is teaching he does not effectively teach it to anyone but those who already understand the subject matter. In this case philosophy. Though Critical Theory is and English course all that is read are philosophers. If you do not already understand the material you are lost.

Read the books! Students hate him because he actually makes them engage with the text, but I don't know what people expect from a lit class. If you are not a critical reader, then this class will either break you or vastly improve your reading skills. He is incredibly insightful, but also a genuinely caring and funny person.

Not gonna lie this is the hardest class ever. He assumes his students know more about historical context and period thought than is given in the reading or you could ever know. At the end there where 8 people in my Honors Lit class. YOU MUST READ THE BOOKS. I think it was worth taking in the end because I learned so much about the world and people.

Dr. Wehrs is brilliant and I really enjoyed his class. That being said, he is sometimes difficult to understand and can come off as condescending. He will assign a lot of reading and you will not make it through his class if you don't read everything. If you work hard and can get past the intimidation, you can learn a lot from him. He is a genius.

Dr. Wehrs is clearly very intelligent but does not care about whether students learn. I'm a senior English major and have gotten A's and B's on ALL my paper's. He failed my first one and when I asked why he said "it was trivial, at best". I did just what he dscribed and he failed my second paper so I had to drop the class. Don't take him

He will seem vey hard at first, but don't worry about what you make on the papers he assigns, his biggest grade is the final. I made D's on all papers and made a B in the class cause of final. Uses very high vocabulary, great guy very wise and teaches alot. perfect for english majors

I had Critical Theory with Wehrs; dude is quirky, but secretly a badass. Super smart, but down to earth. Talk to him after class, he's always willing to explain concepts further. Stay interested and speak up in class, it will help you and everyone else. You're gonna learn a lot from a guy who knows a lot. Plus he's got funny stories.

To explain how difficult he is, the class started with 25 people and ended with 13. Very intelligent and his material/vocab goes over everyone's head, but you get used to it. Super challenging and stressful class, but it's worth taking - I learned more than I ever have in a lit course. Just keep up with reading and study hard.
