This professor has been teaching for 40 years and received 4-5 (out of 5) consistently in the university evaluations. To have so few low ratings here considering she has taught thousands of students is amazing. Rate My Professor has become a haven for disgruntled students who don't read the syllabus and don't appreciate that a B grade is good.

great person outside the class room. I did not appreciate how rude she was. I was frustrated because I couldnt write how I wanted to. She wants you to use her style. She is not very willing to listen to you and understand from a students perspective. hard grader and confusing grading. Thought class would be fun, I did not like it in the end.

I wouldn't recommend taking her online courses. While the classes were interesting, her teaching style doesn't seem fit for online classes. Her grading and feedback came across as nit-picky and at times immature. Someone taking an intro level class, follows all the rules and does all the work should not have to worry about passing the class.

I would not take this class again. I think it is a great class for someone who knows a lot about film. I assumed it would be a fun general to take, but ended up having it be my least favorite class. The lectures in class are very interesting and some of the movies we watched were fun. She is a nice lady, but I was not a fan of her grading style.

Donna is pretty tough, that's true, but in no way is she a bad teacher. I was terrified to take her classes because of the things I'd read on here. Don't be. She certainly cares about your input & success if you show that you care. She's one of those teachers you can look back on and say, whew, that was something else but I'm glad that I had her.

Unclear grading, confusing syllabus, and rude when you try to ask for help. I thought the class would be fun, but she has ruined it for me. I suggest you don't take any class with her. Heavy lectures, several reading assignments, and a very unclear grading system. Thankfully, she is retiring after the spring 2018 semester.

Donna knows what shes talking about. She is very strict on no phones in class. She gives quizzes in class on readings and movie viewings. Show up to class or you will not do well. She does not post notes online. She is very helpful in office hours so if you're struggling you should see her!!

To start off, I am in the 86th percentile for writing according to the SAT and ACT. Thus, I am a pretty decent writer and I've done great in all my writing classes. Donna told me "Every teacher wants the same thing as far as writing style." WHAT?! She would also tell me/students one thing then 5 minutes later tell me not to write that. Frustrating.

She is very enthusiastic and intelligent. Her lectures are pretty interesting, although she is a very tough grader. There are only 3 exams and no final, which means that you REALLY need to do your best on them. I ended up getting a B+ and I studied a lot. I would not take the class if I could go back, since it lowered my GPA. Good luck!

Not helpful at all, this class should be much easier than she makes it. This is basically a writing intensive due to the essay's she gives on every test. If you are looking for a fun and interesting film class, this is not it.

This teacher was a very hard marker and quite rude to her students. She has her own specific writing style that nobody knows and I felt like I just couldn't get anything right no matter how many times I tried to apply her corrections to my work.

Be warned, if you think you're a good writer or enjoy films. She will rip you a new one. During the course we needed to learn how to properly analyze films and write papers on them. Even if you thought you were right, there was always a flaw in what you had to say. If you don't write and think exactly like her, good luck in this class.

Donna is a great person except when it comes to grading. If you use an example in a paper or short essay on the test it's considered plot summary. It also annoys me that she is nit picky on everything you do. She likes to say "you're not in high school anymore." True, but she makes you feel as if you are as intelligent as a high school student.

Be ready to read! She requires you to read for every class and there is a quiz on every reading. She also gives negative and positive points for the exam depending on how you do on the quizzes. Exams are two parts. First part is around 40 multiple choice and TF. Second part is 4 paragraphs on 4 movies and a 6 paragraph essay on the 5th movie.

Essay questions are the most important aspect that is graded even though it's only 30% it still weighs down your grade. Lectures were long and seemed repetitive. The whole class seemed too difficult for a general. Was not an enjoyable enough class to interest me in anything film.

She Is a great teacher that is willing to help you when you need it. She will only not help you if you don't show up to class frequently. I think this is fair especially since the class is once a week. She knows her stuff and has made me more interested in film than I already was.
