Comment:
Knowledge of animation great. Attempting to teach it, no. Hard to understand, forgetful & rambles. Spending hours on ONE student DOES NOT work. Barely animated, spent almost the entire 1st half of semester on walk cycles & in the 2nd, learning things we should have did in the beginning. Very behind compared to other classes. Take at own risk. :/

Nice guy, great animator, not so great instructor. A lot of light box use and clean animation. First year should be about roughs and learning to animate by flipping and not tracing. Spends too much times one-on-one while the rest of class gets no instruction. One must be self motivated.

Doug Crane is something of a legend in the animation industry. Yeah, he rambles on a bit while he's teaching - but his stories are amazing! I think he's worked with everyone in the business both in NY and California as well as overseas. He's always available after class and willing to go over a concept again as needed.

Doug crane has worked with everyone in the business. He knows his stuff! Just do the work, (he can't tolerate slackers) and you'll do fine. He is always available to stay after and explain a concept until you get it. A real gem.

Slow, easy and all you have to do is follow the instructions which is mostly inbetweening the key frames you're given. Unless you skip classes and decided not to do any of the work it's hard to fail his class. Pretty much easy to breeze through and not much of a challenge. He also tends to treat the students like children which I could not stand.

HE is the worst teacher ever. He doesn't teach at all. The semester is almost over, and all we did was just watching videos. If you don't wanna learn, then this is the class for you, but if you do, don't try other teacher

Crane would be a really great teacher for you foundation class. Honestly his lessons involve nothing but in- betweening, but just from that alone I learned more from him than I did in my own foundation year with another professor. If you have him first year, don't take him the second, as he uses the same lesson plan.

Doug is a really good animator... but he can't teach. His class involves lots of inbetweening which leaves you with very little material for your reel. He also spends too much time on special effects (smoke, water, fire...ect) and there is hardly any character animation.

Doug is a decent animator, but a poor teacher. He is good if you are a freshman. He tends to repeat his lessons each year. Contradicts himself quite often and goes on long tangents. I learned nothing from him.

Comment:
As an animator he's got everything needed, he certainly knows how to draw. When it comes to teaching however he falls a little short. He tends to have mixed clarity on his assignments. He also tends to go off and talk to one student for the entire class rather than split his attention between all the students. Brad (the TA) teaches very well tho.

A jewel of a teacher -we are lucky to have someone who is so well respected in the industry. Maybe he is a bit talkative... but boy does he have some stories to tell! He has worked with just about everyone throughout his career. An asset to the school

Doug is pretty awesome. Very helpful, and very nice, he explains everything clearly (though he does have a tendency to ramble on and on and on), and gives plenty of time to finish projects.

This man knows more about how things move than physics professors. Doug is a master animator who has worked on everything from Masters of the Universe to Fat Albert. He's extremely patient, funny and willing to learn new things himself. Wonderful man.
