This professor absolutely loves writing, and to be quite honest, his class is interesting and I look forward to it, which is rare for me. You need to attend class for a good grade, and, you must purchase the books to stay up to date on reading and assignments. Would definitely take this professor again! He spreads life knowledge throughout!

An amazing English professor who is unique and fearless. There is rarely a boring lecture even if the lecture goes off topic a bit it is fun, at least to me. I wish he had more evening classes since now I work during the daytime!

If you show up and listen, then the concepts aren't too hard to grasp. There's a lot of heavy reading, but if you go back and read the assigned essays after watching the films in class, then it's far easier to understand them. He's hilarious, respects his students, and gives great feedback. Very inspirational. Granted there's lots of writing.

Positives: Provides in-depth feedback about stories, praises strong points and gives suggestions on how to improve. Passionate about fiction. Negatives: Mean and un-approachable with crude sense of humor. Very disorganized; the class doesn't follow the syllabus at all. Limits the genres that you can write about. Hard grader; very few ppl get A's

I loved this class, though Rice could never go from point A straight to point B, usually Point Z, H, G and K were in between. I have learned more from Rice as a writer in a single semester than four years of high school. He answered all my questions and made time for me in office hours, gives great feed back on assignments and I am taking him again

Although a few of our classmates (and myself) were very uncertain of what to expect for the midterm, Rice really takes the time to instill in you that this is what he's looking for. When he says, "I want your opinion, just jot that ---- down;" he isn't joking. He means it because he wants to know what you thought. He's a wonderful teacher and cares

Professor Rice is an interesting professor with many opinions and quite the sense of humor! I enjoy his lectures about 25% of the time; he rambles. I expected a writing class to include writing everyday, or even every week. Two essays and two writing assignments. Not hard; boring. I really wish he would include writing in the curriculum.

You either love him or hate him. If you've already taken other film theory professors elsewhere, he will muddle your mind. He's a sweetheart inside but so hokey. He imparts "wisdom" and bases his opinions as absolute. Class felt like a rambling cult IMHO Ignore his rambling lectures, take vigorous book notes and form your own opinions to ace class.

Professor Rice is the most inspiring, intelligent, and educated man. He will respect you if you are passionate about what you do and if you take the class very seriously. DO NOT even think about using a cell phone or eating in class, he will throw you out, no joke! If you respect him and take good notes and are serious, you will pass!

One of the best teachers at Sac State fosho! Will help you if you ask. Tells you why your writing is bad, instead of just saying it. Class is a lot of work, but definitely worth it if writing is your passion. You will learn great things from him!

I've taken several classes from Prof. Rice and plan to take as many more as I can before graduation. An easy A he isn't, and his syllabus is next to useless, but you'll learn more in an hour with this man than in a semester in a more cookie cutter class. Highly recommended if you're an adult and can handle real talk.
