Comment:
Took civic intelligence winter 2012. I suspect Doug never actually read his own book before trying to teach it, the class guidelines were never detailed, and he got very frustrated that we couldn't simply read his mind. It was terrible.

Read the Wikipedia entry for Civic Intelligence, and you will have an idea what Doug's classes are about. Overall it was a fairly easy course with a light homework load. Doug is hard to follow sometimes, but he's passionate about his subject and keeps his students engaged.

Doug was a nice guy, but everything the class entailed was confusing and seemed pointless

I took Civic Intel & Collective Action Winter 2012. The program description was nothing like the class. The class was very disorganized Doug taught his own text book and had trouble responding to students in the classroom. He does not like to deviate from his lesson plan. And doesn't encourage people to speak/listen to students.

Lectures were a little hard to follow at times and could have used more structure. Thanks for your enthusiasm about the material!

Ok Doug is interesting. On one hand he's awesome and lets you experiement on your own (APSE is A Project Studio Enviroment) I do have one complaint, and that is having to watch Morgan get full credit. The man did NOTHING the intire year. He just acted like he knew EVERYTHING by being pompus, I KNOW HE NEVER cracked a book the intire time.

The best thing about Doug was he offered very practical lessons - in other words his teaching style was very hands-on and interactive. Plus the guy is just really knowledgable while still being willing to admit when he is wrong or over his head.

He's a rad guy and a horrible teacher. I can't explain exactly how.. it's just that his lectures are tortuous and time-wasting. But he's a really awesome person.
