first class he will make it clear That hes been turned in to the dean several times. And actually jokes and welcomes you to go try to do it. He will win. He brings politics into the class at inappropriate times. Talks about himself and why he isnt published as a writer. pushs you to write like him. Wouldnt recommend him if you enjoy writing

If you enjoy wiring or believe that you are good writer I advice you to select another professor. No matter how amazing your work may be you will never receive higher than a 90 percent on any paper. He has unclear instructions on homework which makes it difficult because you will be deducted points off your final grade for every homework you miss.

This is my favorite class to go to! He really makes you think about what you're reading and always makes class interesting. PARTICIPATION WILL HELP YOU SO MUCH. The past essays have been fun topics and he teaches you everything about how to be a good writer in 4 classes. Pushes you out of your comfort zone with essays but will only make you better!

Oh jeez, this guy... where to begin? His lectures are boring and unengaging, his grading format is terribly complicated for otherwise simple assignments, he leaves little to no (usually none) feedback on students' thoroughly written essays, and he has a bad habit of coming to class unprepared. I didn't learn a thing in here I didn't know before.

I've never had an english teacher tell me that my essays were bad. I passed English 99 & 100 with A's and i barely got a B in this class. Got B's & C's on all my essays. I had 2 girls in my class and we would always meet to make sure we were doing the essays correctly, still did poorly. He is very unclear and does not email back. Very unimpressed..

Very disappointed because i came here before taking Prof Hopkins and there were great reviews! Do not take him if you feel like you're a good writer. I got C's and B's on all my essays. He is very unclear when grading essays, pop quizzes every week. I read and still barely passed them. His attitude is not my favorite. Definitely don't recommend!

Prof. Hopkins is a cool guy. But if you're not ready for an English class that you must be REALLY dedicated to, do NOT take his English 101 class. Pop quizzes every class...I did the reading and failed most of them - very specific questions, having nothing to do with the theme of the short stories/poems usually. Hard grader, not much extra credit.

If you're not an English major don't take this class. Professor Hopkins is very passionate about his job and English. He's a good teacher, you learn a lot but he is not understanding at all. You forget about a pop quiz, he'll tell you to think about dropping the class. Lots and lots of pop quizzes. STUDY AND READ!! not an easy class at all !

I took Dr. Hopkins when I was an ESL student. He transformed me from someone who can't write an essay into someone who loves writing essays professionally. Attendance is crucial. He addressed your smallest grammar problems. So if you are bad with grammar or English is your 2nd language, take him so he can take you to a higher level.

Great teacher. You have to work a little more for your A though. Other than that, if you pay attention, it wouldn't be as hard! He's a super chill teacher, quite easy going. Extra credit essay given. No way to fail this class

He loves to assign papers with interesting criteria. However, he is a challenging grader. I got B's on every single essay. Creativity is key in your essays. You will also have reading assignments. Do the reading because he holds discussions and even pop quizzes. Overall, he is a very supportive professor that likes to understand his students.

I like the curriculum and the essays topics were pretty interesting. You learn a lot about writing with style as well as the dos and donts of writing. I wasn't particularly fond of the teacher though. Although passionate in his work. Was not very friendly or clear on grading, not easy to approach. Seems to have a lot on his mind. Not fully present

Quality. He isn't the easiest teacher, but he does care about what he teaches. He has a lot to offer if you're prepared to accept constructive criticism. It wouldn't be a good English class if you aren't challenged and don't learn something new. I enjoyed his class.

One of the best professors I've ever had at OCC. He really cares about the subject he's teaching and what his students are getting out of it. He grades pretty hard, but he pretty much tells you on your rough drafts what to fix. He's very open minded and he loves hearing people's opinions on things.

ESL students don’t take him. His grading is very hard for an ESL students. He is one of the hardest teachers you will ever have at OCC. He makes everything clear, but he demands a loooot of things. He is the only teacher at OCC that has an in class essay which was very hard. If you want to write a lot and think only about English take his class.
