Prof Ten Huisen is the man! Hands down the best Spanish professor I've ever had. Not only is he hilarious, but grammar concepts that I'd been confused about since I started Spanish were cleared up in one lecture! This class was pretty difficult and had a lot of homework, but I found that he often used activities similar to the homework on the tests

Prof. Ten Huisen was very helpful and willing to explain things multiple times. He was a bit scatterbrained at times but not too often. If the homework website didn't work properly, he turned the homework into extra credit. Overall a good prof to have.

I had Dwight for SPAN-101 this semester and it was my favorite class. I looked forward to going to Spanish every day because he made the class really fun (it also helped having some funny people in my class too). Our class felt like one big family and it was just overall a good time. He'll answer any question you ask and is very willing to help.

I took his class over interim and it was pretty intense. He talked almost exclusively in Spanish with the accent from Spain. Very hard for us beginners to understand what was going on. We had devotions every day, but in Spanish. Tests were long, many parts, but no matter what teacher the tests are the same for this course. Nice guy, tough course.

THE HARDEST CLASS I'VE TAKEN AT CALVIN. This is worse than the O-chem of science, it's the beast of all beastly classes at Calvin. Expect to work 5x as much for this course as all your others in any given semester. If you haven't been abroad yet, good luck...

Dwight never really seemed to exactly understand the fact that SPAN 102 students aren't fluent in the language. He expected us to learn from his rambling and complaining about how horrible the book we're using is and how bad the spanish department is and how he should be running it. too hard for a 102... don't take him if you can avoid it.

Prof. Ten Huisen knows several languages which makes him very smart, but he expects us beginners to know more than we ever could. The class itself isn't so bad, but the tests are horrible and he's a bit unapproachable. He also constantly makes comments on problems with Calvin's Spanish department and the textbook we use. Take Miller if you can.

Not at all helpful, tests are easily 3x harder than the other 301 profs. Basically tests you on the quality of your previous professors, so if you've spent the past 3 years in Spain then you'll do fine in his class. Oh and don't expect to get compositions/oral exams back within a month of when he says you will (literally!)

Prepares students well for speaking Spanish in the real world because he expects a lot. His class is hard, but I think he truly wants students to understand the language. Biggest complaint: he's very smart, and he knows it, so you just have to get past his ego that shows through sometimes.

HE SUCKS! do not take him if you're life depends on it. He doesn't explain anything, and makes you feel stupid when you ask questions. His tests are SUPER HARD. plus he thinks everything is "super facil" and expects you to think so too,not cool, we dont all learn by reading a book.
