Comment:

Online class. She was very helpful to me because I established regular contact with her immediately. She appreciates those that try. This is a slim workload but an intense schedule of assignments. If you can't handle keeping up, take the class in person. I am a straight A student and will likely get a B in the class. It is hard work! But rewarding.

If possible, do NOT take her for online linguistics. I was so overwhelmed the whole semester with unclear assignments that had very short time frames. I was never clear on exactly what she wanted and feedback on tests was confusing at most. And forgetting to check Blackboard for a day will leave you behind. Avoid her if you can!

Byington and Veit both teach Linguistics.Definitely take Byington.I had Veit and dropped because I was learning nothing and was failing.With Dr.Byington I am not only learning,but I am enjoying learning.I suggest to others to take any class they possibly can with her! She's one of the best prof that UNCW has,and it's a shame that shes retiring soon

For the love of God, don't take her over the summer. We did almost nothing the first two weeks, but the last two were rediculous with all of the assignments crammed together. Also, her expectations are very unclear. I was almost clueless as to what to write the papers about and the quizzes were nothing but trick questions.

I highly reccomend that you take her classes. Had her for 304: writing for teachers and i totally loved the class. I earned an A, and I am far from a str8 A student. Just follow instructions and do the assignments and you will succeed! Dr Byington is the best instructor i have had in the English dept at UNCW!!!

anyway, to make it brief...she can't be fired, she's tenured. In 2001 she also (see student below)claimed to have never received any of many emails I sent her. Said I was a liar. I did learn to SAVE all my emails after my tangle w. her. I rate her class hard simply because THERE WAS NO DIRECTION. She simply assigned a grade at the end of the course

In 24 years of classes (including the 12 grades and ESL cert)this was the WORST teacher I ever encountered. At UNCW I had close to a 4.0 until I took her class. Only class I ever made less than a B in (though I was a good student, non-trad). I actually took my complaints about her all the way to a member of the UNC Board of Regents and was told tha

Where to start...Dr. Byington is one of the worst professors in online education in the WORLD, as known that she is not of the United States. She isn't clear about the topics and expectations of the student....they will know when they fail the class what she had expected. She deletes your e-mail and claim she never got it, just so she can fail U!

For her online classes she is probable one of the most difficult online professors at uncw. Very difficult to try and reason with, its her way or no way. No textbooks for the most part, everything is online. You pretty much have to get on the class website everyday for atleast an hour or two. If you can deal with her take her.

She is the worst professor I've ever had. You will go crazy sitting in her class because she spends the entire time talking about POINTLESS things, repeats them over and over, goes off on random tangents, and is rude and unhelpfull. I hated this class with a passion. So ridiculously pointless.

Had her for an online class. She blasted me because I was confused on how it worked. (I'd never had an online class before.) Instead of encouraging me she told me it'd take a miracle to make a C. I passed the class. Bad experience.
