He is a bore. Often I felt like slitting my wrists but Im a little vain. It was a required course for me and that is why I stayed. This is the first class that I have ever been in where people sign in and then leave within 5-10 minutes. Despite this he is a nice man and gives you makeups. My advice: Dont take it for fun its NOT! You've been warned!

His class is just like any world class education should be. If you want to learn something about sociolinguistics, its a given that you need to get multiple answers for a given questions. thats why he wants you to do the readings and not draw TOO much attention to the book. The BIGGEST way to get an easy A is to work in GROUPS!!!

A genius--really incredible the vast number of examples he brings to the lectures. Sorry to admit though, he is a bit quiet. I learned SO much!

Good prof, but is VEERY quet to the point of being soporific. Sit in the front if you want to hear him, and he is definitely worth hearing. Generally helpful and nice and willing to help. Just drink a LOT of coffeee before coming in to class. He can't help his quietness.

iF you take him then sit up front or else you won't pay attention at all and end up being lost on the exams...you MUST do the review sheet to pass...kind enough to give make ups if you fail...hard to hear so sit up front

Avoid him like the plague for Intro to Ling. He is boring as a burlap sack, but very kind.

He is very soft spoken, but other than that he is very helpful. He responds to all his e-mails and is very flexible with his office hours to accommodate his students. If you are not interested in the subject area, do not take this class, because you won't have any motivation to do the reading.

Bendix is a nice man. Problem is, he's also VERY quiet (and boring) - even when using the mic. He warns the course is very hard - and if you try to take a test w/o studying, it will be! But he gives a review sheet a week or more in advance and goes over it in great detail. Study that alone & pass

This course is extremely easy if you do all the reading. His exams are hardly different than the study guides. I enjoyed his lectures, although he is very hard to hear.

It is definitely a lecture class. Sit in the front of the room in order to hear him best. He is very knowledgeable, and uses a lot of anecdotes to illustrate points. If your not particularly interested in the topic, it is a hard class.
