Comment:
Ten years after graduating from USP, I realize that I may have gained the most knowledge from Dr. Birnbaum's courses. The material is hard because inorganic chemistry is hard. If you don't have a solid background in general chem, p-chem, and quantum chem this course is going to be hell, and no amount of spoon-feeding can save you. Be ready.

Dr. Birnbaum is an exremely intelligent man. He is one of the best teachers I've come across. His personality may be a little dull, but he's the chair. IT'S HIS JOB TO BE STRICT. As for his teaching, he treats students like they would be treated in the real world. If you don't get it, it's not his fault, it's your own.

Doesn't see why students don't understand the material and tends to make you feel stupid. But too bad, chem majors, you're stuck with it!

It was impossible to go through his class without thinking that you're the stupidest person in the whole wide world, but later after the class was over he turned into the greatest chair of a department ever.
