Yes he is hard, but my qualms come from his grading proceedures? there seems to be absolutly no rhyme or reason to his grading. I had A+ all the way to Low Fs and have no idea what was different on my papers?

He is an expert in Middle Eastern modern culture and therefore likes to focus a LOT on that area when talking about the history of civilizations. You really do have to read all of the "novel" length books and ask questions you have about them. Listen in class. Participate in ALL discussions. He rewards those that work hard.

Haynes is amazing! I loved both classes I took from him. You get as much out of this class as you put into it. Work hard, and you will be rewarded. Do the readings and the outside assignments and it will pay off greatly. Participation is important, both online and in class!!! This man knows SOOOOO much about SOOOO much. He's an asset to have!

Are the classes hard? Yes. This is college, so you should not be expecting any cupcake classes anymore. But the work is so rewarding. You will learn as much as you want to learn, the choice is really up to you.

I had Dr. Haynes in 1988-89. How good is he if students will let him? I'm a tenured, published history professor now. That is how good. Take advantage of one of the most dedicated professors at any university not just Winthrop.

He is extremley difficult. You are required to read 4 novels through out the semester. I was very disturbed by his views on religion. I would never recommend anyone to take this course with this professor.

Dr. Haynes, while a very challenging professor, is very easily the best professor I've had. His intention is to make you think about what you're studying, not just memorize facts. Class discussions are extremely important and will often make the difference between letter grades. Dr. Haynes is viewed as sarcastic, but he's an awesome professor.

The 1 thing Dr Haynes said to my class was if by the time u graduate 4rm collage and u haven't challenged everything that u ever thought true then u haven't experianced collage. His class is run pretty much that way. He wants to shock his students into another world view. Yeah theres alot of reading but it's all revelent to the subject matter.

I learned so much about a part of the world that I knew very little about. Part of that is my fault, but part is the fault of our school systems and their lack Asian History offerings. India and Pakistan, should be major focal points in more history classes. Haynes is fair. He tells you what he expects and doesn't deviate from it.

Be ready to read, read, and read!!! Class participation is part of your grade, but it is easy stuff to talk about so don't worry. Although be prepared to think and back up your thoughts. You have only have about 6 grades the whole semster, which can be a good or a bad thing, just think outside the box and just to do all quote or analyzation.

Wonderful professor. I learnt much and thought of things in a different light. Not only does he KNOW his history, he's well-traveled, meaning that HE KNOWS IT FIRST HAND, and not just from some textbook. Intensely intelligent, and multilingual. Definitely a teacher that should be respected and honored.

Excellent teacher, very enlightening. His courses are intense, but you will learn history, and history's history. Careful for those who are sensitive, his views aren't the 'norm' but I think his views make more sense in this day that others. Brillant man, and blessed is the woman who he is married to!! A+++

I love this class, but it's hard for me to stay awake because it's so early in the morning. A lot of this class is stuff I already learned from middle and high school, but it's presented differently. Though the reading may seem a little overwelhming at first, it's not so bad once you start. I'm glad that he's not afraid to say whatever is on his mind. I tend to agree with a lot of his points.

The reading is intense, but you will learn more than you will in anyone else's class. He is very passionate, and his ideals may conflict with yours, but he will definitely expose you to a different view of the world. Very much enjoyed and highly suggeste
