Comment:
Class was often really boring and dry. In creative writing class, I expected a lot of freedom with out writing structure. Unfortunately, the professor is pretty biased and will grade on what he thinks is good, such as the structure or diction. He did seem passionate about wanting to teach this class though.

Laid back personality and can be humorous at times. Class included 3 major essays including the occasional in-class essay. Did not find essays difficult but definitely tedious. He is picky about grammar so make sure to ask questions regarding that. Overall the class was okay, I liked how he encouraged class discussions, and he's approachable.

This guy is very dry and boring. He can be funny at times but class was boring all the time. Assignments are mandatory b/c they will bring down your grade if not turned in. Alot of reading from the book and quizzes from the reading. Overall, this class is a 6 out of 10.

This is an active class. There are many assignments to keep you on your toes. But he's very helpful and understanding. He will help you and clarify things if you ask. You will need to buy the textbook because quizzes come from there.

Hard grader in grammar. Open minded and his grammar quizzes were difficult and obscure. Overall a great teacher though I noticed my writing improved. Our final was a reflective paper.

Schragg is overall a really cool guy and knows his stuff when it comes to writing. My writing got better in his class, I'm happy to say. The only thing I didn't like about his class was that he encouraged overly-harsh criticism, which I don't think encouraged anyone. He's an understanding, straightforward guy. I enjoyed his class!

Heavy emphasis on grammar, everyone in the class always did horribly on the tests. Also unclear how to study for them. Professor expects you to understand writing assignments but can't really explain them. Helpful feedback on essays, by the end of the class my writing improved. Can't really relate to students, but not from lack of trying.

Good english class, but pretty boring. He's very willing to help out those who ask. Not too difficult of a grader, but definitely not the easiest.

Such a boring class, but pretty easy if you just do all the work. I skipped quite a few times and skimmed the readings but still managed to get a B+.

Schragg was a good teacher overall. The essays were pretty relaxed, only being 1500 words at most. He grades essays pretty thoroughly and is picky about grammar. Essay topics were easy to write on. He does a good job of preparing you for the department final. I recommend taking him if you want a laid back teacher that will teach effectively.

Super hard grader, even if he gives a second chance on a paper and you make the corrections, your grade will stay the same. He always gave me B-'s and C's no matter what I fixed.

I enjoyed this class, actually. You do have to show up to class as much as possible because he asks a few questions at the start of class that go towards your participation grade. He is a thorough grader. Your essay grade can go down simply from a typo. But I recommend this class. He's a good professor & the readings are interesting

If you love writing essays and enjoy literature, take his class. This is not the kind of class you can BS through. NO PARTIAL CREDIT for anything, and an EXTREMELY hard grader. Deducts points for ANY little excuse, sometimes without justification. Great teacher. You will learn much, but his unfair grading system is what kills most people.

Thought that this was going to be a simple class, but it definitely was not. No matter if you spend an hour on an assignment or two hours you grade will stay the same. He is one of the hardest graders i've had. Class average is about a 75% and thats only beginning of November. Reading quizes and they are hard. PLEASE AVOID. VERY DIFFICULT GRADER!!!

He was very helpfull when ever you asked for help!! a very hard grader and gives NO partial credit in anything. he gives reading every night and makes you take a reading response at the begining of every class for the reading done the night before! Makes you work hard and gives extra credit opportunities!going to every class is highly recommended!

not too enthusiastic. i got bored often. he tries to relate to students but fails. there are a lot of quizzes/partner quizzes so DO THE READING. put effort into the essays and go to class. fair grader but he's not an easy A. most students get a B. the semester was bearable but i wouldn't take him again.

he was able to make this class bearable. He gaves us the reins when it came to choosing our topics for papers. I think there was a total of 5 papers the last is a research paper. I had him only once a week.

He's a really chill guy. You get quizzes for every reading assignment, they get kinda annoying but they're only a small part of your grade. He definitely knows his stuff though when it comes to essays.

Horrible! Never did bad in a english class until I encountered him. Gives quizzes every class on readings on unnecessary details, which causes one to easily lose points. Unfair grader, definitely don't recommend.
