I took myth and tragedy with him and he is a great teacher. I think he is one of the best teachers at loyola. His tests are somewhat annoying because you have to know a ton of lines, but he gives you a list of them prior so all you have to so is know those...so its not that bad. He is VERY interesting as a lecturer. Learned a LOT!

Professor Menes is a very nice person, in terms of being helpful towards your success in the class. I took CLST 273 during the summer and the material was rather straight forward. Its not necessary to read the plays prior to coming to class if you listen well during class and keep good notes. I highly recommend taking this class!

Menes is an okay professor. He is terrible at getting papers back on time. This year most of the class turned in a paper in Feb but did not get it back until late April. That being said, his tests are a pain, class is EXTREMELY boring, dull, and mind-numbing. He isn't helpful at all during office hours. Don't take him.

Comment:

Heroes and Epics. Iliad,Odys, Aeneid. Very nice professor. He cancels class due to inclement weather, but makes up for lost time. You can afford to miss class if you're sick or really need to. But try to catch as many lectures as you can. He builds on themes that you will be expected to be familiar with for the exams (one each epic, not cumulative)

The class is interesting and the reading is ok. Tests are straight forward. 4 papers for a WI class so it isn't bad. Very easy grader and grades easier if you constantly go to class. Will check papers before and let you correct for a higher score. Drawback = takes forever to return papers.. just took the final and know 40 percent of my grade

dr. menes works very hard for his students. he allows students to email him assignments and he prints them out to make comments on. although you don't have to go to class, tests are all about memorizing lines from texts so it's kinda boring. readings are interesting.

I've had Menes a number of times, and every class is great. Nothing really else to say. He's one of the best professors at the school...it will be a lesser institution when he finally retires. :-(

Prof. Menes is extremely intelligent when it comes to the subject material. It's worth going to class just to hear him lecture. Class is relatively easy. Assigns 3 papers and you can send a rough draft to him to check. 2 Tests which he gives you a study guide for. Keep up with the readings and you will be just fine.

Prof. Menes is one of the best professors EVER. He's very clear, very helpful, and a great guy. His papers aren't hard, even for a writing intensive. His tests are a little hard, but only if you have trouble memorizing.
