I loved this professor. Two essays, Midterm and final, both are open book. I dont think she is a tough grader, especially if you know how to write an effective essay. Its a plus to participate.

Comment:

Pros: Excellent teacher. Listens to students. Tremendous amount of knowledge in her field. Gives helpful feedback. Pushes students to think. Thorough exploration and analysis of novels. Cons: Late to every class but one. Shares too much personal information. Highly political in the classroom. Rarely referred to assigned readings other than novels.

Requirements are reading, two 5-7pg essays in-class essay for midterm and final. Prof Richardson is very bright and analyzes each book thoroughly. Particular about essays but she is clear about her expectations and is a fair grader. I would gladly take another class with her, I learned a lot through her dynamic lectures.

I agree with the other person; she IS in love with her own ideas and yes she is phony. But what can I say? She knows her stuff. And for goodness sake do not hand in mediocre paper because your grade will reflect that.

If you don't have to, don't take that class. The teacher is in love with her own ideas. She is all smily, and "how are you darling?" but trust me she is two-face lady. This class is good if you need "spiritual advices" from the teacher who used to teach in elementary school. On top of that SHE is very often late for the morning class.

She has great energy, and her analysis of the texts helped me understand books I had read several times before in a whole new way. I really disagree with the earlier comment about her forcing her own opinions onto students. If you can back up your ideas with textual support, she rewards you! But she has a strong B.S. detector, so u have to work.

She's amazing. She's very clear when it comes to reading the text and deciphering what the author is trying to portray. She's also very willing to help any student in writing their papers. Great professor! Makes the books come alive. You will never find yourself bored in her class. She provides individual attention which is very helpful. Although she is a difficult grader, she is generous with final grades as long as you show and participate. I had her twice and if I could take all my major classes with her I would!

Prof. Ulen is a great teacher. She's very specific on the format of her papers but her classes are extremly interesting. Take good notes as she likes to hear herself in the papers. Two papers, midterm and final. Overall excellent teacher.

Absolutely outstanding teacher! Very beautiful woman and extremely intelligent person. Her classes are so informative and so much fun. Especially I love Woman at point Zero. This novel will rock your world!
