She reads off of her notes, and does a lot of plot summary, but I learned a lot about the Modern period. Her quizzes are crazy specific (do your readings) and there aren't many assignments, but if you read, show up, and write a strong essay, you'll be fine!

An amazing teacher, basically. You get the textbooks and you are actually using them. Explanations are clear and fascinating. Few essays and quizzes, and they are very straight-forward. Children's literature course actually makes you feel like you are learning something. I took it early in the morning, and it was definitely worth getting up for it.

She is so passionate and fascinating. The texts are so interesting and easy to read although there is a lot of stories to read. The professor is just a feminist, anti-patriarch, anti-capitalism, brilliant women with great insight on old tales. Easy grader on the essays. Quizzes are very specific but as long as you read the stories, you'll do great.

There is no grading criteria and her comments are so general. Most of the time the comment will be "awkward". I tried to get clarifications or to know what I should work on in order to write better essays and she only told me to take easier subjects.

She literally reads from the book, lecture after mind numbing lecture. It's disappointing. Avoid this professor if you can, there are far more inspiring, engaging professors in the English departure. Awful, awful, awful.

I was personally very excited for the children's literature class. I expected to study fairytales and the evolution of their meaning. I was not disappointed. I enjoyed the material immensely and Elaine seems passionate about the subject. Some students felt the class took too much of a "literary" approach and felt disappointed. Keep that in mind:)

Lectures are long and could get boring when students don't participate or comment. The quizzes were straightforward and the essays were short (900 words). The content could have been more interesting, consisted of fiction, poems and plays. A lot of reading in which she skims through.

She is passionate about the material, readings are fun as they consist of fairy-tales and children's stories. Her quizzes are short answer and fairly easy. Her essays are short and she grades fair. Lectures can be a tad boring at times.

I get on average A to B+ on every paper I write for other classes I take (im in 4th year). I got a D- from her on a paper I put just as much work in and her reasons were "need to clarify." Unfair grading, attendance is mandatory and she doesn't seem to hear what students say so she misunderstands a lot. Not worth taking imo.

This teacher will literally talk for 3 hours non stop in front of 30 people about her own opinion. dry and boring flavour. if you don't agree with her points of view then you are generally dismissed there's no room for discussion. im upset that i am paying for this experience what a waste!

She spends the first 15 minutes of an 1.15 hour class taking attendance by calling out names, and then goes through the stories paragraph by paragraph: which would be fine if there weren't several stories to get through per class! We were behind the entire semester. Avoid if possible!

We are assigned numerous stories each week but we average 2 stories discussed a class. Pigeon seems to think its necessary to read through the story instead of just picking out the essential talking points. She literally goes through the stories paragraph by paragraph. It's really frustrating that we are behind schedule.

Very good professor although she is a tough marker. Dislikes bad grammar and will penalize for it. You'll really learn how to write properly after taking a class with her.

There are no exams, only three essays (two short - 5pp and one long - 10pp). She does take attendance. There is quite a lot of reading - we read four novels and numerous essays, poems, and short stories. The reading material she chooses is very rich and she clearly knows what she's talking about. Not very helpful during office hours, however.

Really boring class, but if you have to take the class, take her anddo as she says. Don't ever bother trying to be inventive, just do as she says and you'll get an easy A-. Do as she says, go to class and smile once in a while in class and you'll magically boost your GPA
