Comment:
Dr. Swanson has a great personality and I love talking to her, but her classes are not well organized and there's not a lot of open discussion. She has impeccable taste in literature, but doesn't engage well in a large classroom setting.

Comment:
I am not a fan of Dr. Swanson. Her syllabus is unreliable, her assignments are as vague as you could imagine, and despite mandate reading via quizzes, she seldom requests participation. She just reads online reviews of the pieces you read. What I will say is that Dr. Swanson chooses interesting pieces to read, as she cares about the environment.

I admire Dr. Swanson so much. She is an extremely talented poet who is truly passionate about poetry and teaching it to others. I never enjoyed poetry until I took this class. She is helpful, kind and quirky, which makes the class that much more enjoyable. She pushes you - but this helps you become a better writer. Great professor, engaging class.

Her grading is hard and the tests are out of 5. Sometimes you don't have to read the whole book to take a quiz. A few essays throughout the semester but she gives extra credit to those who attend the writing center.

Comment:
Dr. Swanson is engaging and generous. Her door is always open. She's a brilliant fiction and poetry writer; in seminar she'll really help you if she sees you want to write. In regular classes she encourages thought and discussion. She can be tough: you will read and write A LOT, but in 400-level English, you should! An excellent professor.

Dr. Swanson is an amazing teacher and one of my best friends -- however, she can tell if you don't care, so make an effort, go in and talk to her, and you're set.

Dr. Swanson is a lovely person who's dedicated to helping you succeed. She can be confusing at times, but as long as you communicate with her (I probably emailed her 20 times over a semester) she'll make sure you're on track. The best thing is about her is that she truly cares both about you and your education.

She is my adviser and I took Freshman Writing Seminar with her and Dr Doty. She is warm, humorous, and engages very well with her students. Hell, she let me write a paper about Nine Inch Nails and she loved it! She's very helpful and pushes you to write better.

This woman can help you on your writing. It is best if you already have enough confidence and independence in your own style. Take her advice with a grain of salt, of course. She's really intelligent, but leans too heavily on scholarly articles for her lectures. She has a poetic and environmentally-aware approach to literature. She pours a lot into teaching, and if you meet with her ahead of time to show rough drafts and ask questions, you'll do well. And read!
