Comment:
Professor Siegel definitely knows his stuff, but he goes through the material very quickly and I found it helpful to go through the notes again with a friend. Recitations were also useful and they will often elaborate on things that were merely skimmed over in lecture. Grade is based on only three exams, which were very difficult.

Comment:
Prof. Siegel was very difficult to follow during class, in part because he mutters in a monotone and in part because he goes so quickly. But if you can make yourself pay attention, he is a wealth of information and is pretty funny too.

The only problem I had with Siegel was the speed with which he went through the material. You have to really be paying attention during lecture/read ahead or you'll get lost easily..so I didnt really learn anything during lecture. He really knows his stuff though, can answer any question you throw at him. Test averages were about 80.

A lot of the class's toughness stems from the intrinsic difficulty of the material. To help, he holds semi-weekly recitations and test reviews and provides a forum to ask him questions in. Reading before lecture helps a lot. Most importantly, the problem sets and practice tests are extremely similar to and helpful for the tests he gives.

This professor can be different for many people. His lectures go extremely quickly and can not be typed due to frequent diagrams, he uses transparencies and thus the notes are not available outside of class. However, his tests are fair though hard, he covers the material well, and he provides students with many outside-of-class resources to help.

Siegel is easily the worst teacher I have had IN MY LIFE. In lecture, he moves too fast and is incomprehensible with his notes. He explains difficult topics briefly while saving the long, drawn out discussions for the easy material. This is of course if you are still awake to keep up with his babble. IF YOU SEE ELI SIEGEL ON YOUR BLACKBOARD, RUN!

great professor! especially helpful in office hours. he knows his stuff and is happy to discuss it with you and answer any questions. pay attention in lectures, since he highlights what he wants you to know from the readings.

Prof. Siegel was easily the worst biology professor I've had in college. His lectures are poorly structured and very boring, and his tests do not test your knowledge of the material. He is also not very helpful and sent me several nasty e-mails

Yes his lectures were mindnumbingly boring and monotoned, but if you can force yourself to get past that and pay attention anyways, then his presentation of the material is actually very clear and easy to understand. He's also very helpful at office hours (even if he refuses to look you in the eye). The man knows his stuff and his tests are fair.

His lectures are so boring and his voice is monotone. Otherwise, his tests are mostly multiple choice and pretty fair and some questions are identical to homework. They can still be tricky tho.

Not a bad teacher but very boring. He does tell you what you need to know but for some reason his voice is single toned so it actually is pretty funny that anybody could be that horizontal in the way they speak.

Wonderful! Why can't people realize that if you don't like the class you won't like the professor? Those that can't make that distinction unfortunately give professors a bad name. Siegel is brilliant and explains things well. He makes himself accessible and prepares students well for exams.

his section of the course packet had lots of exercise and example problems which was nice, you had a better idea of what to expect on the test. I can't say how helpful he was though, 'cause i never went to his office hrs or got to know him.

His lectures are very non sequitur. Very monotone, not exciting, and makes the class more confusing. Your better off not going to class and just read the book.
