I took the Intro class as a requirement to graduate. I've read the reviews below and I don't agree with anyone who thinks the class is too difficult. Studying a lot doesn't mean you understood the material at all. Katz is a great instructor and is willing to put in extra time and 1-on-1 sessions if you're confused. I recommend taking this class.

Dr. Katz is an awesome professor and her class is equally amazing. Her lectures are thought provoking. If you are prepared to do the work, then you can pass the class and her exams. She is fair and always willing to explain if you do not understand the material. I took this class as an elective and have decided to minor in philosophy.

I loved her class. She is very interesting and makes you think. This class is a lot of group discussion, no ones forced but it helps to participate. Doing the readings helps a lot especially with her in-class assignments. she makes you work for your grade but it isn't that tough.

People who claim this class is difficult obviously never studied the material. This class requires a lot of reading, but you can do it at your own pace. If you are not willing to do so and hope for an easy A without doing anything, then this class (and perhaps college) is not for you.

This professor's class is not as hard as everyone claims. During the beginning of the course, the teacher provides a syllabus/schedule detailing pages you have to read each week. If you read the pages and take notes, you will not only pass, but actually learn a lot. If you hate reading and/or philosophy, do not take this class.

She is honestly a great teacher, but teaches the class like is a high level class when it's a level 1. Many people hate her because her tests are hard which they are because it's all essay and she is a very strict grader. MAKE SURE YOU TAKE GOOD NOTES and study your butt off!

This professor really does know what she is talking about and she thoroughly explains the content. However I DO NOT recommend this class for basic understanding of philosophy. I agree with the others the way she presents her material is way to confusing and when you think you got it gues what you failed.

She was a good professor although many times she was confusing sometimes when you don't understand she tries really hard to explain it but you end up more confused than you actually started out with. However if you show her that you are interested and you are trying she will help you as much as possible

For all of those who say that they studied really hard, obviously that wasn't the case. Dr. Katz spends a lot of time explaining the material ad nauseam. Maybe "you" should move to the front of the class and ask more questions instead of holding her responsible for your mental ineptitude. Then again, she is teaching at NYIT. Too bad for her.

Cost me my scholarship.Anyone who says 'You were probably just lazy' was extremely lucky. For ALL her exams, I studied days (I neglected my other classes cause she thought that hers took priority over classes for your major) & wrote 2 blue books in the time she gave us to the last minute. And I wasnt making stuff up. But I didnt pass a single exam.

Anyone who says that professor Katz is a horrible professor is stupid and lazy. She is one of the best professors at the school. She knows what she's talking about, and she expects you to work. If you expect to skate on by, don't take her. If you want to learn, she will teach you and make sure you understand philosophy.

I agree, do not take this class under any circumstance. This teacher is really bad and shouldnt teach in a college enviroment! She does not know how to explain a basic philo class and makes it harder than it has to be. She is really bad and doesnt care about your personal problems. She fails so many students. STAY AWAY OR FAIL THATS YOUR CHOICE !!!

I wouldnt wish this class on my worse enemy. She takes the easiest things and complicates it and words them in a way which is confusing. Although she is acessable and helpful...but if you feel you cant handle the class i reccomend you drop it before the first exam.

As long as you stay on her good side you're alright; plus it really will help you if you do 1 or 2 of her extra credits (more if needbe, especially to get her attention) and make sure you schedule a visit with her before things go badly...she'll definitely take notice of that

I wounder why Katz is still teaching after all the students she fails! She tries to teach a 101 level class as if it were a graduate class. She does not know how to explain 101 level material to new students.Gives nonsense for notes.thinks because she is a Phd,shes above everyone. She is the absolute worst teacher ive had at NYIT.A very bad attitude!
