Didn't take her class at Oxford, but over a summer program in Australia. She is definitely off her rocker as others have said and is extremely passionate about plants. She's not the most difficult professor (mostly memory recall, not much critical thinking). If you like Dr. Carter, take Dr. Starnes for CVA (Bio 205) at the Atlanta campus.

Genuinely cares about her students (mental-health wise and academically) and wants to get to know them. Her class is tough, and she's aware of that, so she does all that she can to help you to pass. One of, if not the, best professors at Emory. Will come back to visit her in the future. Very thankful for how she's inspired me.

Don't miss out this wonderful class if you are interested in plants and the environment. The class trip is really fun and the weekly labs involve a lot of hiking. There are only two writing assignments, both are on ethnobotany. Keying and tree identification require some practice. Overall, this is an enjoyable Q/INT course for all majors!

Field botany was a life changing class. It's limited to 8 people, and you're outdoors a lot. Dr. Carter's passion is botany, so it's easy to see how much effort she puts into classes and how much she enjoys teaching. There's a lot of identification and plant keying, but if you put the work in and come to the lab often, you're golden.

Like the other comment said, she is off her rocker. On courses it says her labs are 3 hours long, but typically her labs run 45 minutes longer than usual. Her tests do not reflect what is taught in class, she puts questions on tests that are not even in the textbook!!! Awful, just god awful professor. Don't take her and wait till main campus.

Dr. Carter is my fav teacher of all time. If you care about biology, make an effort to take this class. She is sweet and really cool. I understand a lot of people struggle with this class; i saw many a person visit her office, but its imperative to keep up with the reading to do well. Tests are fair as is lab. 10/10 would take this class again

Dr. Carter is hands down the best and most caring prof I've had at Oxford. The material is really hard and she knows it, so she's always available for office hours. She takes the time to explain everything really well in class. The tests are hard, but are based on the material that was covered-unlike some profs. I would highly recommend her class!

Comment:
Dr. Carter's lectures are fairly interesting, but they sometimes seem very rushed since she tries to cover an insane amount of material. Despite being a good teacher, her tests (especially lab exams) are ridiculously hard and she is a VERY harsh grader. You will learn a lot but you have to work REALLY hard to get even a B. Be ready for 8 AM exams.

Dr. Carter is amazing! She is very energetic and explains everything very clearly. She is very interested in her students and their learning. She is a bit difficult because of her heavy influence on Botany. Her class also demands a lot of time in order to do well, but overall she is a terrific professor!

Dr. Carter is awesome. My favorite professor at Oxford, by far. She makes everything interesting. She's got a great personality and is very passionate about bio. Her tests are another story... They're hardcore. You have to know stuff inside and out to do well on the tests. Studying (a lot) and going to her for help are key for doing well.

Dr. Carter is a great teacher! She is very enthusiastic and this class doesnt require much. Anyone can make an A if you study. There is no previous knowledge of bio requiered and its mostly plants their parts and what we eat. For Oxford its an English major's way out of a science, yet is very interesting and you learn a lot.
