Gives great assignments that are difficult and challenging but very helpful for understanding the subject. He has high expectations for his students and helps you meet them. Extremely helpful if you go to his office. His assignments seem intimidating at times but he is a fair grader and will help you if you ask.

Is this a fairly hard class? Yes, but he was my most helpful teacher on campus. I have so much respect for this man. Every time that I dropped the ball he gave me chances to redeem myself. He wants you to pass! But he wants you to learn to.

I took classes from Bro. Thompson on three different occasions. (I graduated several years ago) His courses are difficult, but he is willing to help you if you ask him. Study hard, ask for clarification, and work at it, and you'll be fine. Sometimes the purposes of some assignments aren't clear until the end of the class, but they are all useful

He was the worst instructor I've ever had, and this was the worst class I've ever taken. Disorganized, rude, confusing, and the grading system makes no sense. Avoid it at all costs.

He is so confusing. Doesn't explain anything. He repeats himself over and over. He grades super hard on things he doesn't even explain. You get graded on how good you can draw a map. Last time I checked this is a history class, not an art class.

I don't recommend him. He's nice, but SO confusing. If you try to ask him a question, he gets confused and can't answer it. Then he gets frustrated. He may know his material, but sure doesn't know how to teach it. I haven't heard anything good about any of the other HIST 201 teachers. So you may just have to get through it!

He is such a sweet man. Sometimes he can be a bit confusing in class, but if you don't understand something he will always be willing to help you out especially during his office hours. If you study and do the readings you will do fine on the tests. I really enjoyed having him as a teacher, he is very very knowledgeable.

Avoid like the plague. He is unclear as to what and how he wants students to do assignments. The text book is filler to his focus on reading the Aeneid, writing a 3 page paper, and Hugh Nibley. Has skewed grading system and won't post grades on I-Learn. Weekly in class Aeneid quizzes. Don't ask him questions he only repeats what he already said.

The difficulty came from how disorganized the class was. We had a calendar, but he was constantly making changes. For projects he was very unclear about what he wanted us to do, and would get frustrated when we kept asking him about it.

It is NOT a class for people who want to be babied!Honestly if you study the flash cards, fill out the worksheets he gives you, you should do fine. Don't bother asking him about specifics just look it up on ilearn, and don't pay attention if he is saying something that doesn't match up with your schedule or ilearn-he is wrong your schedule is right

Very rigorous class and I ended up having to drop it. The teacher is unclear with how he wants his assignments done, and is very particular about grading. He has us reading from The Aeneid which has nothing to do with the subject at all. Try and avoid this class at all costs. It'll just stress you out.

WORST TEACHER EVER! He is not at all clear on what he wants from you so you always will do badly on an assignment no matter how hard you work on it.. Never understands what your asking and is not at all helpful. AVOID AT ALL COSTS!! Very confusing class and has you reading the Aeneid that has nothing to do with the subject and is soooo hard!

Knows more about education than other history teachers. Is hard of hearing, but will help you out on an individual basis. Takes another aproch to history, the Aenead IS part of history contrary to what others have posted. Very chalenging but will help you learn how to study if you will let him. My advice is to go into his office and talk with him.

Nice, but awful teacher! He does not understand questions you are asking and expects a lot of work from you but doesn't explain things well at all! He has you reading from 3 different textbooks at once and 2 of them don't even really apply to the class. I highly unrecommend him. avoid!

Brother Thompson is a great guy! He really wants to help you, he gives you great suggestions when you go see him for help, but, he is so hard! He gives so much homework, and doesn't seem to recognize you have other classes and other homework, too. I do not advise taking him at all!

Horrible teacher, not helpful at all. I took this class online. Studied about 10 hours for the midterm and did horrible cuz he expects you to memorize EVERYTHING. Don't take this class with him ever. He never answers emails and he doesn't tell you what you did wrong on assignments so you cant improve. Worst teacher I've ever had.

I feel like this professor expects more from his students than he does from himself. About a map test he said "You have to do a better map than me to get 100%", or something highly similar. History majors don't even like his class (my roomate is one, she's going to retake it). This class is wickedly hard, take the online one.

If you can avoid taking a class from this teacher, DO. I like history, but this teacher makes me want to sleep. He is very strict in his grading and he expects us to do a lot. Avoid him.
