Originally thought he was mean and hated students, but really it's because he has no patience for those who do not want to learn. The material is tough but he understands it better than anyone on the planet and he does want to see his students succeed. If you go to class and pay attention you will learn so much, he knows how to make you work though

Worst professor in the mining department (by far). Horrible personality, not approachable/accommodating, doesn't care about students. He invites guest lecturers to "teach us" - but it's a networking session in disguise (for himself). If you're female and hit his "soft spot" he'll mark you favorably. Expect a final grade in the C or D range.

This was the one course I was really excited for and interested in. He managed to completely ruin my interest and make this one of my least favourite classes. The only prof I've ever seen who seems to want to fail his students.

The material is important but DeSouza is arrogant.... Spends too much time telling class how great he is, how much consulting he does, etc. Maybe he should spend time on his students. The marking scheme does not differentiate between strong and weak students with nearly everyone getting in the 50s. Frustrating!

Very clear, very thorough, weekly assignments are great stepping stones to test what you've learned or just learn it! Very clear, asks class lots of questions (including any suggestions in teaching style). Hope all mining profs are like this.
