Eckert is one of the most formative instructors in my academic career. Pushes her students and breaks down paradigms. BRILLIANT woman, extremely caring and considerate of students. Gives addl responsibility as her faith in you grows, but is v supportive and accommodating if you hit a rough patch. Enthusiastic about her material, astounding teacher.

I notice that the prof's bad reviews come from 1) years ago or 2) people who can't even spell the word "absolute" properly. Eckert is a prof who WILL push you, WILL make you work hard to earn your grade, and if you don't understand something, you'd best pop by her office (she's always there, even at 10pm at night) to figure things out. Why? The tea

Eva is really spirited and passionate about the language but its so difficult to understand her. She takes for granted what you should know and doesn't explain much. Be prepared to teach yourself quite a bit.

Prof. Eckert is wacky, fun, passionate, inspirational, driven and amazing. Sometimes infuriating, but in a good-for-you sort of way. She kicks your butt, and you learn insane amounts of Russian. And she forces you to achieve things you never knew you could do. She drove me nuts, but I adore her.

Pure love and enthusiasm for her subject and her students. Also kind of crazy. Her exuberance and mental wanderings lead to a lack of clarity which is not helped by overall distance from the larger linguistics community. Tremendously helpful, though, and truly a sparkling human being.

She exemplifies the motto, "Work hard or Go home." She does not want you to leave, she wants you to do the work. She is there for you at anytime, but you need to ask--she can be intimidating! However, she is a very sweet lady. Sometimes a little hard to follow, but she is very insightful--even though that is not always how it appears.

She's really a sweetheart and very enthousiastic about the material. Yes, sometimes a little too much so, but the previous reviews are WAAAYYY off (It was probably done by the same person). She really deserves a better rating, honest. I got an A- and it really wasn't that hard if you show interest.

expects class to be as interested as excited as she is, so doesn't make the class fun. In RUS, won't explain even minor points in english. VERY strong accent, making it frequently difficult to understand her. In LIN, bounces around the room wondering why class is not excited by this boring material.

This teacher started out okay but then during the year she gradually started getting worse. In my class, she gave ridiculous amounts of really insanely hard work for a 100 level course. Even a friend of mine who is a Linguistics major said the work we were doing was way too hard for this class.

the absolut longst class i have ever taken.... goodness it is such a bad class. also, be aware that she can be quite oblivious at times as to what she is teaching or why.... unless you are really interested in linguistics i would take a pass on this one folks

This class was the bane of my existence all semester. Too much work often assigned via e-mail as an afterthought, poorly explained assignments, classes ran late regularly, and I'm still not sure what exactly we were supposed to be learning.

terrible - thinks the existence of email is an excuse to assign work on non-class days whenever she wants, which is very frequently. she is not accomadating and assigns far too much work. expects 3 to 4 hours of studying for 15 minute quizzes.
